Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

As a result, the G-7 meeting that Trudeau will host on Friday and Saturday was shaping up to be the most contentious, and possibly the most consequential, since the summits began, in 1975. Trump's chief economic adviser, Larry Kudlow, told the White House press corps on Wednesday that this was all just a "family quarrel," but, if so, it's one ugly fight. As Kudlow acknowledged the rift, Trudeau and France's President, Emmanuel Macron, were meeting to plot strategy, and everyone was wondering why Trump, who is often described as averse to face-to-face conflict, had chosen the weeks preceding the annual G-7 summit to punch his allies in the face.

If Pres Trump's goal were to wreck the G-7, his actions would make more sense.

Pres Trump's comment that Russia should return the the G-7 took even his National Security Council by surprise, it just was not expected or planned for Pres Trump to say that.

As Pres Trump pivots to expanding his bromance with Pres Putin, why is he leaving our allies behind, even actively throwing scorn towards our allies? Is Pres Trump executing Pres Putin's strategy to separate the US from our European allies?

What is Pres Trump plan in this?

To make everything about him.

Because he's Putin's bitch and Putin told him to do it.

I'm curious what the back channel to Putin is for Trump.

We know about the suggestion of one using Russian equipment at a Russian consulate.

It seems they were able to set one up without our knowing about it.

US foreign policy is completely disconnected from reality and depraved. Trump's most loyal servant Haley is making things worse than ever, but the disconnection and depravity did not begin with Trump. The 800 foreign military bases which pretend to be for "defense" shape a policy of belligerence and depravity.

Much is being made about Trump taking on the trade deals between the US and its trading partners. To much focus is placed on the governments of those countries and not on American companies and wealthy individuals investing in companies within those countries. These companies and investors convince American politicians that free trade is good which allows for the foreign companies in which they have invested to have free access to our markets. Its no wonder that Trump is getting push back on his trade policies because these investors are pushing their political puppets to take action less they lose their investments in foreign companies.

Its going to be funny if Putin anc Un end up saving the world from that crazy pig.

Crazy Pig? Un is the craziest pig.

Un isn't going to save anyone or anything. His only goal is survival. He fears everyone, he knows that the world hates him. He knows his own people hate him. He is in an eternal effort to survive as the leader of N. Korea and he knows his life could be very short because his own people hate him.

It really means first Donald, then his empire, then Ivanka, then Putin, then PT Barnum's motto, "There's a sucker born every minute".

When modern Russia has a GDP LESS THAN South Korea... it kinda changes the whole "threat assessment" thingy.

I am sure Murica and Israel really give a hoot. Not gonna change the plan nor mission.

I have it on good authority that "Amerikans" don't give a damn what others think of them.

It isn't the first time, I doubt it will be the last. As a big nosed French punk once said, "Nations don't have allies, only shared interests". If it is not in the interest of the United States to keep the Russians out of Western Europe, why should we be footing the bill for their defense? I have never seen the Europeans pay for crap. The only Army in NATO worth a damn isn't even European, it is the Turks. Also know as the New Ottoman Empire.

That's a pretty big "if."

Let me guess: You don't even have an opinion on whether its in our interest to maintain control over our (hemi)sphere of influence.

You don't quite understand it when people talk about the hegemony. You don't know what that means or how it serves America's interests.

Armed with all that ignorance, how could you possibly be wrong about a thing you don't even understand?

#10 | Posted by AuntieSocial, Don't underestimate the bear, Their economy is crap, but they still field an army three times the size of the rest of Europe, If you don't count the Turks and the US forces. As Hitler said, "Why build a big army and not use it?"

It's okay to say you don't know how much trade we do with Europe, or why.

That was Condoleeza Rice. But +1 for the Godwin/Hitler reference by post #15.

"You go to war with the military you have, not the military you wish you had."

(Which was a pretty big lie, because we had the 500,000 troops needed to successfully occupy Iraq, we just didn't use that many.)
