Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Donald Trump has called for Russia to be readmitted to the G7 club of world leaders, opening up a new rift with Europe at the start of an acrimonious summit in Québec. The US president argued that Russia's suspension from the then G8 in 2014, after it annexed Crimea, should be reversed for pragmatic reasons ... "Why are we having the meeting without Russia being in the meeting?" Trump asked reporters on his way to the summit. "Russia should be in the meeting, it should be a part of it. You know, whether you like it or not, and it may not be politically correct, but we have a world to run and the G7, which used to be the G8 -- they threw Russia out -- they should let Russia come back in because we should have Russia at the negotiating table."

Let's see....

Kick out diplomats, allow them to stay and bring more.

Give classified intelligence to Russian spies.

Refuse to enact sanctions Congress passed almost unanimously.

Destroy alliances with western Europe and Canada.

Push China to buy Russian soybeans with tariffs.

Refuse to do anything about Russian hacking into our electoral process. In fact, close the office of cyber security to make it easier for Russia to hack our elections.

What a nightmare.

Pres Trump wants a friend of his at the G-7 talks. He has isolated the United States to the point that none of our allies' leaders even want to sit with him...

So Pres Trump wants his bromance pal, Pres Putin, to be at the future G-7 meetings so that he has someone to talk with and give classified information to.

"I have been Russia's worst nightmare"

America's, yes.

"We have a traitor in the WH, Trumpers will continue to defend him."

What else does he have to do to get republicans to call him out?

He could rename New York Putingrad and his base would cheer.

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) on Friday became the second Republican senator to break with President Trump for saying that Russia should be invited back into the G-7, an influential group of Western economic powers and Japan.

"No, Russia should not be added to the G-7," Flake wrote on Twitter, after Trump said Russia should again be a part of the group from which it was suspended in 2014.

Moments before, Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) slammed Trump's suggestion to reinstate Russia as a "weak" move.

"Putin is not our friend and he is not the president's buddy. He is a thug using Soviet-style aggression to wage a shadow war against America, and our leadership should act like it," said Sasse, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Apparently the rest of Republicans are fine with whatever Trump does, so long as they got their tax cuts.

Russia's economy is large enouth that they should be involved. Why not? You crybabies are still so upset that Hillary lost that you can't see straight. The left once loved Russia but when they started trying to use them as a reason that Hillary lost it all changed. Why not have as many players at the table as possible? Last I knew world peace was a goal. You haters are so butt hurt over Hillary's loss that you would rather have the US at war with Russia than peace. And you call Trump supporters traitors. Get a grip.

Trump Renews Overtures to Putin, Against Pretty Much All Advice
www.bloomberg.com

...Donald Trump is eager to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin back into the fold of the international community, defying the advice of U.S. allies, lawmakers in his own party, and even his own administration's top national security officials.

Trump said on Friday that Russia should be re-admitted to the Group of Eight countries, which was reduced to a Group of Seven following Putin's annexation of Crimea in 2014. Other leaders in the group of industrialized nations rebuked the U.S. president, who made the off-the-cuff remark as he left the White House for the annual G7 summit in Quebec....

Removing Russia from the G-8 was in response to Russia annexing Crimea.

If and when Russia returns Crimea to Ukraine, then I'd be OK with allowing Russia into the G-7.

The left "loved" russian when they were liberalizing their country. Then putin took over and they've resumed being a tyrannical authoritarian troublemaker, with a leader who jails gays, kills reporters, and holds fake elections.

If russia had helped clinton win, you'd hate them. You only pretend russia is a good country because putin loves your con man leader. And putin only loves trump because he knows he'll harm america, which putin hates.

Except for worst deal ever Iran, just shoot some missiles Syria and Socialist Venezuela.

And sometimes North Korea.

And Mexico and sometimes Canada.

And is that why Trump is making enemies of our friends? So he can keep them closer?

At least we have Russia as a close Frienemy now.

And we will always have Nambia.

" ...they threw Russia out -"

If my memory serves me correctly, the decision to remove Russia from the G8 was made with the support of the US.

Makes me wonder if Trump's hatred of Obama is so deep that even the US itself under Obama is a " they" to him.

Russia's economy is large enouth that they should be involved. Why not?

Why? Not based on their economy.

Canada's the smallest of the G7, and Russia's well below it. In fact, in terms of per capita GDP, Russia's abysmal - almost 1/6th the size:

Canada - $1,800,000,000,000 -$52,068
Russia - $1,300,000,000,000 - $9,028

Russia was in because they had started reforming their economy and behaving better. Plus they had a ton of nukes. We needed to make them feel like they were included with the old USSR satellite countries aligning with the West. Not to mention their supply of Natural Gas.

Invite them back in? Hell no.

The American War Machine hates any peace dividend. Our military forces are one hundred times stronger than Russia, which the lowly Taliban have demonstrated does not guarantee victory. The whole point of tearing down the wall and reuniting Germany should have benefited both sides. Instead, the USA through deception and depravity, sought to capitalize on that political shift selfishly and foolishly. Madness in the nuclear age, squandering mankind's future for money and power. Soon China and Russia will be able to vaporize our aircraft carriers. Then what? Where does all this moral depravity end?

#27 | Posted by bayviking at 2018-06-09 07:31 AM | Reply

Neighbors have always been natural trading partners. Trump's timing of tariffs on allies while inviting Russia back to the economic G7 conference is stupid. But it is better than the endless fearmongering, as if the fantasy of an Iranian, Russian or North Korean invasion is even plausible.

#28 | Posted by bayviking at 2018-06-10 07:01 AM | Reply

Trump arrived late, left early, and dumped the U.S. in the dirt.

Jesco Denzel‘s photo of Merkel leaning on the table staring an arm-folded Trump in the face is iconic. They have a leader, we have a crumbum.

Forget "G6 + 1." They oughta just throw the U.S. out. The U.S. is no "plus" as long as Trump's in charge anyway -- Trump is a hindrance.

And Trump's call to admit Putin to their ranks? I finally really am beginning to wonder what Putin has on him. It certainly isn't simply soggy Russian prostitutes. Gotta have something to do with a whole lot of money.
