The primary metric for unemployment was 3.8 percent in May, an 18-year low, as employers added 233,000 jobs. AP reports, "In the midst of all that hiring, the Trump administration has slapped tariffs on steel and aluminum from Europe, Mexico and Canada." Scott Anderson, chief economist at Bank of the West, said, "The May jobs report revealed impressive strength and breadth in U.S. job creation that blew away most economists' expectations," said Scott Anderson, chief economist at Bank of the West.

Good news sort of. That's about up 20,000 jobs from the estimate.

But wages are climbing at half what they should be for an unemployment rate that low...despite a massive tax cut...

That's because tax cuts don't increase wages.

The best way to lower the "official" unemployment numbers is deny benefits, as that is the metric they use.

Think about that.

That's what $1.50/week is. If they save for two weeks they can get a hot pocket

Thank you! SNAP has been cut, medicare and medicade cut, unemployment benefits cut, everything that protects citizens from destitution are cut. If you have a pre-existing condition you are not employable. If you are too old you are unemployable. If you are not straight white and "normal" you are omitted from employment opportunities too. The real numbers are so much worse - the homeless population is exploding during Obama and hasn't slowed down under the Trump administration. Labor division statistics are misleading at best.

I work with manufacturers in MO and IL, they are all trying to hire. One of the biggest hurdles they face is that many qualified applicants cannot pass the initial drug screen.

this is an underlying problem that no one is talking about

It's not anybody's business if you do drugs on your own time.
