Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, May 22, 2018

If you received a security warning visiting the Drudge Retort this morning, it was because I let the site's HTTPS certificate expire. I have renewed it for another year and installed the new certificate. I'm sorry about the ominous warning. If you experience any problems let us know. The purpose of the certificate is to provide a more secure experience by using an encrypted HTTPS connection instead of HTTP. This makes everything you send or receive from the Retort private.

Yup my browser SeaMonkey wouldn't let me come here because it said that it might be a fake site, I had to make a exception to its setting to let me come here

Glad I'm not the only one.

Was wondering if one of those freaky porn sites I've been visiting installed something on my computer.

Laura, Kanrei, and I were afraid it was evidence that rcade unceremoniously shut down the site. Not that Kanrei particularly cares at the moment.

Hag, how is Kanrei?

Sadly, that day may come sooner than many of us think.

#11 that was my first thought as well.

He'll let us know if and when that is about to happen.

The security warnings in Google Chrome are ominous. If I was a user here and saw that I'd power down the computer and hide under the bed in a fetal position.

All's well that ends well.

It wasn't any better on Safari for iOS. I deleted my browser history, rebooted my phone, and when I checked again and the problem still remained I thought I might have serious problems. Didn't help that immediately before I checked in I had made a purchase on a site I never used before. Had me worrying that I just gave away my cc information to a fraudulent site. Thanks for the momentary panic, bro. 🤨

Sorry. I have already put the renewal for next year in my calendar several weeks before the expiration date, along with full instructions. I will make sure it doesn't happen again.

I was ready to put a hard freeze on my credit reports, report my credit cards stolen, change passwords and damn the 13 cookies that were lurking when I tried to log in. Cripes RCADE that was one get out of jail free card for future use for the scare.

That's where I first saw it.

But since it wasn't offering me a free Wal-Mart gift card I figured it wasn't too bad.

LoL at the responses... It's scary for a reason. :)

RCade - happens to the best of us. You need to make a move to Let's Encrypt for your SSL certs...

I got the warning, so I read the certificate, noticed it was expired a day earlier or whatever, and figured I was safe.

Hey why is my bank account empty? ;)

I get it. ish happens. I actually was more worried that you shut down the site without giving everyone a chance to say goodbye than that something had happened to my phone. So, when the time comes, do us a favor and give us fair warning to allow us to collectively grieve. Maybe unban old retorters and send out a notification to the emails of regular users so they can come back for a retirement party.

Yes, I should. They are free. Because I waited so long to renew this one, I had to pay another $100 because I thought that would be faster.

If the Retort ever shut down, I would try to give users plenty of time to discuss it and make plans amongst yourselves to hang out elsewhere.

But there are no reasons to worry that is coming.

So you're going to be an old geezer in the nursing home running the retort?? I can picture it now. RCADE is a drooling mess says to the nurse on call. I gotta take a dump I mean give a dump hold on lady. There I have a dump now you can feed me my goo.

I happened to be using our old office server last night using XP and old Chrome, lol. It told me that the Retort clock was not accurate, and then that they had failed to renew their Cert.

"www.drudge.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate expired on Monday, May 21, 2018 .... PM. The current time is Monday, May 21, 2018 9:20 PM. Error code: SEC_ERROR_EXPIRED_CERTIFICATE"

Not so scary, and perfectly accurate. I can still watch HD movies on the old hoss, too.

Glad you care enough to have a certificate. The warning reminded me to update my MS files and make a backup. I needed to do that anyway.

Personally I wasn't concerned.

I saw right away what had happened.

What I do worry about is what kind of crap is running in the background since this site is custom made by I would presume the moderator who is far from being an amateur.

It shouldn't be available from the outside looking in. I think Rcades security is pretty good.

There isn't much for them to see stored locally because I don't ask for much information from users. However, this is ad-supported so there is a ------- of third-party cookies. I'd like to find an alternative business model.
