Scott Pruitt's EPA and the White House sought to block publication of a federal health study on a nationwide water-contamination crisis, after one Trump administration aide warned it would cause a "public relations nightmare," newly disclosed emails reveal. The intervention early this year -- not previously disclosed -- came as HHS' Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry was preparing to publish its assessment of a class of toxic chemicals that has contaminated water supplies near military bases, chemical plants and other sites from New York to Michigan to West Virginia. The study would show that the chemicals endanger human health at a far lower level than EPA has previously called safe, according to the emails.

You poisoned my sweet water.
You cut down my green trees.
The food you fed my children
Was the cause of their disease.

And the airs not good to breathe.
And those of us who care enough,
We have to do something.......

Nearly 50 years now, and the fact that the song is still relevant is a crime.

What's this matter?

Flint still can't get clean water and the city (state?) has stopped providing bottled.

A lot of good federal studies will do if the federal government refuses to step in and save entire swaths of U.S. citizens from poison in their water.

The new studies matter if they reach more people and put more pressure on the WH to act.

But your'e right to wonder why it would do any good as long as we elect people who are placing industry advocates in charge of issues like chemical safety.

"Critics say the delay shows the Trump administration is placing politics ahead of an urgent public health concern -- something they had feared would happen after agency leaders like Pruitt started placing industry advocates in charge of issues like chemical safety."

So where's the free market when we need it?

There's GOT to be some way to profit off of saving people from poison, right?

Apparently not when the old tech is still profitable and it's makers are put in charge of the hen house.

You know - I'm not even going to debate that. The thing is - who cares since we are talking about the current administration and their actions. It turns out that it is transparent because so many people truly can't take the BS coming out of it. It isn't a free will transparency if you will...

It sounds like Obama's EPA fudged the numbers to make the water look safe when he knew it wasn't.

Trump might be trying to find a solution without panicking the entire eastern seaboard.

I wonder how many years this has been going on...eight? Ten? Oh wait, we might get lucky and pin it on Bush.

Yep, I've read about this a few years back. I think I even posted an article on DuPont in WV:

"The chemicals at issue in the HHS study have long been used in products like Teflon and firefighting foam, and are contaminating water systems around the country. Known as PFOA and PFOS, they have been linked with thyroid defects, problems in pregnancy and certain cancers, even at low levels of exposure."

In fact I KNOW I did. Hans can find it.

firefighting foam, and are contaminating water systems around the country.

AFFF is great at stopping fires, but horrible for water systems and life forms in the surrounding area. It lingers well after the fire is gone
