Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Americans overwhelmingly support limits on political campaign spending, and most think new laws could effectively reduce the role of money in politics. A recent Pew Research Center report finds several indications of public concern over campaign spending. There is widespread -- and bipartisan -- agreement that people who make large political donations should not have more political influence than others, but Americans largely don't see that as a description of the country today.

We have a few armchair Constitutional scholars here on the DR.
Let's talk about the Founders intent in creating the First Amendment.
Was it that people who make large political donations should have more political influence?

Owing to the swear filter, I can't say exactly what I want, but here it is in tactical punctuation camoflague:

"The pen is mightier than the sword."

We like to think of that as meaning the free press, but it's just as applicable to for-profit corporations ssrving foreign masters hoping to exert influence over our political landscape.

And the more money the pen that signs the those checks has, the more influence it has.

As adorable as that is, the Conservative justices have announced that campaign spending cap laws are a violation of the First Amendment because Corporations have rights too.

They have manufactured Constitutional rights out of thin air in direct contradiction to the intent of the founders.

Constitutional Conventions....hell no! Think Electoral College and the power of the red states in any such convention.

Yeah, because it's not like the first black President didn't raise a record amount of money at the time to get elected. It's a shame when certain people don't know how to apply their opinion to both sides and only use partisan thoughts to form their conclusions.
