New York Times and the New Yorker won the Public Service award for exposing wealthy sexual predators in Hollywood. The Washington Post took the coveted Investigative Reporting award for reporting on the Alabama senate race. The Arizona Republic and USA Today Network won Explanatory Reporting for the difficulties and unintended consequences of fulfilling President Trump's pledge to construct a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico. A GQ freelance reporter won best feature writing for a story about Dylann Roof. The New York Times and The Washington Post shared the National Reporting Pulitzer for relentlessly reported coverage in the public interest that dramatically furthered the nation's understanding of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and its connections to the Trump campaign, the President-elect's transition team and his eventual administration.

"The Times and the New Yorker magazine also shared the gold medal for public service, the highest honor in the 101-year-old competition, for their work documenting allegations of harassment and sexual assault involving prominent men in the entertainment industry and news media.

The award went to a team of reporters at the Times that focused on Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, former Fox News host Bill O'Reilly and comedian Louis C.K., and to the New Yorker's Ronan Farrow, who revealed Weinstein's allegedly violent interactions with acclaimed actresses and efforts to cover them up".
