Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A private college in California will be hosting a pool party later today at which white people will be excluded, with only "people who identify as POC" permitted to attend. "POC" stands for "person of color." The event will take place at Scripps College's Sallie Tiernan Field House pool, according to The Claremont Independent.

Update: The party organizers changed the rules and all college students were allowed to attend:

After the Independent reported that event organizers segregated tonight's pool party at Scripps College, barring white students from attending, the organizers changed their event's description to allow all students regardless of race at the Claremont Colleges -- a consortium consisting of Scripps College, Pomona College, Harvey Mudd College, Claremont McKenna College, and Pitzer College -- to attend the pool party hosted at the college's Sallie Tiernan Field House.

I hope a bunch of KWP's (kooky white people) that identify as POCs show up and take a dip.

Perhaps some POC gays and transgender people show up too. POCs are notoriously accepting of the LBGT community.

I just think it's ironic that they say "We just want to be with people like us" and it's the same justification that racists used to segregate the races in the first place.

But of course no liberal can see that...

@#3 ... Isn't that racist? ...

In a more ideal world, yes. I would agree that it is racist.

But in today's world, where there is a person with racist tendencies in the Oval Office, a person who thinks of neo-nazis as "nice people," and who has a history of racist tendencies, or a republican Party that is starting to cater to the racist tendencies of its members, or when a black kid apparently gets shot at because he rang a doorbell to ask for directions to school... well... this is not an ideal world.

So to your point... I'd rather not have these types of events occur, but they are the symptom of the problem. It is that problem that should be looked at and solved.

Lots more details needed, is there something preventing you from associating, or you just trying prevent others from associating? What is the location? Public or private space? etc., etc., etc.

Like Voter ID... I think the concept of Voter ID is a good one, but in actuality the Republicans use a good concept for a bad purpose (i.e., voter suppression).

That's funny. Because when actual evidence of voter suppression goes before the Court, they keep finding Republicans are trying to suppress votes... That's "liberal" and "conservative" Judges on the trial court level and appellate level.

Odd how when there is actual evidence, you appear wrong. And this seems to be a common theme with your posts. I wonder why?

I was in the closed Senate Republican Caucus when the final round of multiple Voter ID bills were being discussed. A handful of the GOP Senators were giddy about the ramifications and literally singled out the prospects of suppressing minority and college voters. Think about that for a minute. You shouldn't have to pay for anything in order for you to vote. Panhandlers licenses, in many areas, costs money. You understand the irony of that? Requiring someone who necessitates begging for money to live to purchase a license to beg for money to live?

You also have to pass a background check to obtain a panhandler's license. I don't remember having to pass a background check to vote, but I'm also not a felon, so my experience is limited in this arena.

I don't care. It's just a party and they are expressing a desire for POC to get along with each other.....there are many different cultures within POC, right?

No whites is a little extreme, IMO....but as long as it's peaceful and no hateful rhetoric is spewed......party on.

I could care less.

The only thing I find strange is that during the last administration HUD viewed self-segregation as a bad thing and sought to use federal power to correct this injustice by building high rise cheap housing in affluent (presumably deep red) neighborhoods.

Yet, in this context, self-segregation is a good thing.

North Carolina was found guilty of illegally drawing voting districts to disenfranchise minority voters.

You could try just accepting the ugly truth about North Carolina's racist GOP majority, especially since you are a member of it.

What a tired worn out LIE. Are you sure you live in North Carolina? The state that tried to pass the country's worst voter suppression law in the country? Surely you saw the case of the attempt to pass the worst voter suppression law in the country? Maybe you were in your bunker that day.

The Supreme Court Won't Reinstate the Country's Worst Voter-Suppression Law
The federal courts ruled that North Carolina's restrictions targeted black voters "with almost surgical precision."

www.thenation.com

North Carolina voters probably won't have to worry about a return of strict voter-ID tests any time soon. Monday, the Supreme Court announced that it would not hear arguments in North Carolina, et al. v. North Carolina State Conference of the NAACP, et al. That case was petitioned by Republican state officials, including then-Governor Pat McCrory, after the Fourth Circuit court found last year that a package of 2013 voting reforms, including the establishment of a strict voter-ID requirement and restrictions on early voting and same-day registration, "were enacted with racially discriminatory intent."
