Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, April 13, 2018

You cannot complain about Fox News, and then serenely proclaim that liberal-leaning publications are some sort of natural happenstance, like tsunamis. You cannot demand that people work hard to include minorities while simultaneously, well, refusing to include a minority. And obviously, I would offer the same admonition to conservatives who are outraged by their own exclusion, while refusing to listen to complaints from other excluded groups. But if you aren't swayed by appeals to logic, consider the practicalities. A substantial fraction, maybe a plurality, of the country is being made to feel the stings of exclusion, with all the anger and counterreaction that implies. That's not going to end well.

Unfortunately, I suspect that there are people who think that this will end well, at least for them -- that we are now in total war, and their side is headed for V-E Day. And that a strategic lack of charity is therefore a valuable tactic.

They're making a grave mistake. If we are in total war, it's not World War II, but World War I, with both sides deeply entrenched, and neither side controlling sufficient strategic resources for outright victory. Which leaves us with two choices: We can keep killing each other without ever really advancing. Or we can seek an armistice, and a generous peace that lets us live together as neighbors rather than enemies.

Good read.

And it doesn't come off as being paranoia. Not even close.

It is what it is. I appreciate journalists on both sides of the political aisle and I've spent zero time working in the industry so I can't confirm any truth as to the environment they live in.

but to take a sample from the DR community here.......the most leftist here resemble racists in some ways.

Some Leftists here believe in their own self-assigned superiority over conservatives, they make excuses for their snide comments about conservative positions and conservative people in general. They view conservatives as a threat to their version of a decent way of life. It all excuses their behavior and beliefs

Racists believe in their own self-assigned superiority over blacks, they make excuses for their snide comments about blacks, and the culture of the black community and black people in general. They view blacks as a threat to their version of a decent way of life. It all excuses their behavior and beliefs.

Now, are some conservatives guilty of the exact same thing? absolutely.

But it's kind of a scary parallel. Of course, it doesn't involve all leftists or liberals or conservatives....not at all. Most, IMO, are not like that.

The reverse is also true when it comes to some on the Religious Right who believe all liberals are evil and Satan's minions. Some of those folks have gone as far as to say, "I'd rather vote for Devil himself than vote for a Democrat."

Good to note:

Just this week we had a leader from the right, board member of the NRA saying conservatives ought to just shoot Democrats. His story is hardly alone. I myself have been insulted and screamed by conservatives. They openly say they want to take away rights from women, gays, transgender people. They want to break up Mexican families with deportation of people who have lived here for 20-30 years while obeying the laws. Sorry folks, I knew people would disagree but the philosophy of conservatism is mean spirited, selfish and discriminatory. Always has been. Hey some great conservatives are right now trying to lie us into another war. This time a big one too.

A tornado is coming and you're upset at how somebody is raking your leaves.

Newsflash: We're pissed because Trump is a complete trainwreck and every day he drags us lower. We don't even know what the bottom is yet. It could be constitutional crisis. It could be nuclear war. It could be female White House officials being ordered to pee on each other at Cabinet meetings while Fox News broadcasts it live and calls it a special evangelical hour of worship.

Maybe the Donald disaster is more important than a sudden outbreak of sadfeels from Trump enablers and apologists on the right.

Are we biased against conservatives? Rick Wilson, Charlie Sykes, David Frum and the other conservatives fighting Trump do just fine with us.

Conservative voices remind them of their parents telling them that getting a nose ring and face tats will make them unemployable. Yes, a condition brought about by too much spending. Let's play a game - do we spend too much on the military? I suspect you would agree that is the case. So, is our deficit resulting from the massive military spending a result of the massive military spending or that we just don't tax enough for it? You support raising taxes if they were solely earmarked to pay for military spending?

I use this an example to show how laughable Bored's statement was above in that these rich libs want to pay - just not for the military. It is why an across the board cut is required for all government programs in the 25-30% range. If given the opportunity, the Dems trade horses with the GOP to fund EVERYTHING and nothing is ever cut. It is why the monstrosity of a budget that just passed exists.

Bill and Warren are giving away most of their wealth.

I love how gullible you freaks are, you will believe anything that ThinkMediaHuffTalkingProgressMattersPoPointsMemo tells you to think.

Warren Buffett is fond of saying his tax rate is lower than his secretary's. He does not publicize his tax returns, but for the tax year 2010, he paid $6.9 million on taxable income of $39.8 million, according to partial disclosures he made in 2011.

What is astounding about those numbers is not the 17.3% tax rate, but that Buffett's $39.8 million of taxable income is only about 0.05% of his reported net worth ($71 billion according to Forbes, which put him third on its list of the 400 wealthiest people in the world for 2015).

Proportionately, that's like someone with an ever-expanding net worth, currently $10 million, reporting taxable income of only $5,000 and paying a federal tax bill of only $900.

Since, according to his publicly stated plans, Buffett intends to leave the bulk of his estate to charity, his estate won't be paying much tax, either.

The Buffett Loophole and the Berkshire Model are allowing one individual to build one of the great American fortunes while avoiding individual taxes.

As I pointed above - Buffett wants YOU to pay more in taxes, no doubt about that. However, he is not willing to do so himself. The day he marches for estate tax reform so he doesn't skip out on his $20B+ deferred capital gains tax is the day he will have an ounce of credibility when it comes to tax policy. But no - all about upping W2 tax rates.

A bit of cognitive dissonance seems to be slipping in though - which is progress. Look at Bored, he admits that Gates is doing the right thing by skipping out on taxes as the government would waste his money otherwise (ie Gates is better at determining how to spend his money than the government - and it is HIS money). All he needs to do now is for someone like Bored to understand the same thinking applies to middle class and upper middle class folks as well - the government wastes everyone's money. He still seems stuck on stupid at the moment, but there is hope for him.

I am a multimillionaire business owner. I pay a tiny amount of income tax because the current system is designed to have middle class employees pay more.
My condo in Hawaii was bought with pretax money. I deduct my trips to 'inspect' it. Most owners in my complex do the same. Middle class families making 100k a year pay way more tax than I do and I make more than triple that.
Don't blame buffet and gates for following the rules of a rigged tax system. Blame the ones that bribed the GOP to make it that way.

I've already pointed out that Hillary is as sincere as a Mayan Totem Pole built just yesterday -- and those are her good qualities.

You're way overthinking what's most important.

Respectfully, what's most important to you is most important to the country as a whole -- and that was voting for Hillary.

Wrong and therein lies your problem. There were other places to eat at. I chose them over Hillary. You want me to eat at your establishment pick better food.

By not choosing the frozen pizza, you, me, and everyone else not members of America's Oligarchy won't have enough money to buy any frozen pizzas, let alone any higher quality pie ... that's my point.

You can have your frozen pizza. I had a burger at Jill's place and didn't feel sick later. Good burger btw. You should try it next time.

So you still think Clinton would be just as bad as Trump, if not worse.

Jill's Tofu Burger Place doubles as a bait and tackle shop plus hemp products ... none of which I'm against but I also stopped fishing long ago and prefer serious food -- like frozen pizza!

There's good frozen pizza, but there's also no frozen pizza being forced on all of us -- that's my point.

You've lost and you know it. There is no redeeming quality in Hillary and you can't admit it. Now you are reduced to selling frozen pizza because you've got nothing at all.

- There is no redeeming quality in Hillary

Not to chronic HDS suffers.

I would be willing to bet that you would agree with the majority of what she proposed to do as President.... if her name weren't on these policies.

I won.

By voting for Hillary, I did what pragmatic adults do in all walks of life, which is to simply (as Spike Lee taught us) "do the right thing".

The problem is America lost by allowing an obvious incompetent moron to be elected POTUS.

Always remember to do the right thing.

Do the right thing is voting my conscience which I did. You don't like it because I refused to be cowed into voting for Hillary something I TOLD YOU HERE repeatedly that I would NOT Do and now you are mad. Thems how the ball bounces my friend.

A conscience more concerned with satisfying it's ego with a vote for your "favorite" rather than satisfying your civic duty to vote for what's best for the country isn't much of a conscience at all.

Being conscientious is virtue until it becomes liability.

I almost always agree with what you have to say, but this is a rare exception.

Being conscientious is virtue until it becomes liability.

Given that Kansas is far from a swing state, does it really matter?

One gets the impression that where Laura voted wouldn't have changed how she voted, even if it were a swing state.

"There is no redeeming quality in Hillary and you can't admit it."

There was at least one. And it was what I couldn't get out of my head in the months leading up to the election. One that brought me to vote major party for the first time since 92 even though I live in a safely blue state: she wasn't Trump. You know I love you, Laura, but if you can't concede that, at minimum, she was at least a better risk than this lunatic, I think the issue is with you, not Hillary.

One of the reasons Trump got elected is because you morons couldn't stop attacking independent voters leading up the election. And you still don't have a ------- clue that YOU are the ones who own this.

I am an Independent voter.

I only registered as a Democrat because I supported Bernie, who ran as a Democrat.

And you voted for Hillary in order to keep Orange Adolph out of the Oval Office?

And there you go again, claiming those who voted third party only did so to spite others. The reality is you and your pathetic candidate failed to sway them. It never even crossed your mind that you needed to earn their votes. And you still don't think you do. You're not only still defending the losing strategy that your candidate employed in the last election, you're also still executing it.

We're pissed because Trump is a complete trainwreck and every day he drags us lower. We don't even know what the bottom is yet. It could be constitutional crisis. It could be nuclear war. - #14 | Posted by rcade at 2018-04-13 05:52 PM
Replace 'Trump' with 'Obama' and this could be word-for-word how the fringe right sounded during the last President's term. Both are equally unhinged from reality.
