Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, April 12, 2018

President Donald Trump's allies are preparing an extensive campaign to fight back against James Comey's publicity tour, trying to undermine the credibility of the former FBI director by reviving the blistering Democratic criticism of him before he was fired nearly a year ago. The battle plan against Comey, obtained by CNN, calls for branding the nation's former top law enforcement official as "Lyin' Comey" through a website, digital advertising and talking points to be sent to Republicans across the country before his memoir is released next week. The White House signed off on the plan, which is being overseen by the Republican National Committee.

"Comey is a liar and a leaker and his misconduct led both Republicans and Democrats to call for his firing," Republican chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement to CNN. "If Comey wants the spotlight back on him, we'll make sure the American people understand why he has no one but himself to blame for his complete lack of credibility."

Apparently it does, and CNN is at the forefront to delegitimize this presidency.

To the point that they will support anyone and anything that opposes Trump.

Is this journalism, or is it political assassination? I'm asking a legit question here.

CNN obtains and reports on Republican plans to counter the Comey book promotion tour, including his apparently devastating ABC interview to be aired Sunday, and that's dishonest media hysteria?

You must think they made up the Republican plan, right? Or are you just a hysterically dishonest Trump shill?

Posters around here know the answer to that question.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) hit President Trump on Saturday for his frequent attacks on the news media, calling the president a "pathological liar."

"In Trump's view people should ignore all the news except what comes directly from him. That is what totalitarianism is all about. Good thing we have Donald Trump, a pathological liar, to tell us the 'truth,'" Sanders wrote in a series of tweets.

Don't confuse a simple report on one aspect of a subject matter as being the only type of real journalism. A longer, more complex report that includes the larger context of a story along with any relevant back story and other points of view can also qualify as journalism.

#32 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2018-04-12 06:20 PM | Reply

Trump relies on and benefits from "simple' reporting that just states: Trump said/tweeted this. The RNC said/tweeted this. A lot of the time what Trump says and tweets is factually incorrect or outright lies. "Simple" reporting that doesn't identify that isn't good journalism. All it does is normalize Trump and his presidency in a way that does not represent reality. All politicians lie, but as the Bernie quotes I cited make clear, Trump is in a class all by himself. For example, a straight report that says, "So and So, a member of Trump's National Security Team, resigned today" may be factual but adding comments from various sources and putting that resignation in the context of how many other people in his administration have resigned to date, and then comparing that to the staff turnover rates of previous administrations, is better reporting.

I don't see anything in that list that isn't either factual accurate or something that the RNC and the WH would not agree with. For example, the RNC and WH probably wouldn't agree with this description "given that Trump unceremoniously dismissed him" but I think most people, including apparently John Kelly, think the way Trump fired Comey (as well as a number of others he has forced out since then) can accurately be described as "unceremoniously dismissed".

Last August, at our annual summer BBQ (called "Grill Day") all 5 of my charcoal cookers got some use. At one point I had 3 going at once.

We have friends whose backyard butts up to our backyard. Their older daughter is 10 days older than our older son and their younger daughter is two weeks older than our younger son.

My wife and my friend's wife compared notes and the older children were highly likely conceived on the same night.

The younger girl is now 14. When she was in second grade on the first day of school the teacher passed out short questionnaires - a get to know you, kind of thing.

One of the questions was: List your 3 favorite holidays.

This was her response:

1. Christmas
2. Grill Day
3. Halloween

Classic!

"I think Ryan is a classy guy. I stand by that."

Yeah, he'll dress perfectly and act politely in his new job as a lobbyist f*****g the American people as he has done as a Congressman and as Speaker. I wouldn't spit on him if he was on fire.

More "analysis" :

Comey's devastating takedown of Trump - www.cnn.com

Seems like straight up unbiased reporting to me. I can't even tell who they're rooting for.

Is there a Republican politician at the federal level whom you don't hate with a passion beyond all belief?

Trump and his supporters have absolutely no remaining credibility with which to argue that Comey has none.

"Sheeple,

Left-wing media bias is a VERY real thing."

You are an idiot.

"Is there a Republican politician at the federal level whom you don't hate with a passion beyond all belief?"

There were in the past. I didn't hate Bob Dole.

It was around the time that Bush rose to ascendancy and weaponized McCain's adopted browm baby that the GOP gave way to lying sleaze Ryan and the Tea Party Know-Nothings. In 2018, pretty much the ntite GOP are deplorables. Like our mayor Kevin Faulconer, talked a good game on homeless but in 18 months all he's done is put up some temporary tents, despite millions in commitments from local business leaders. The GOP of today won't do anything, right or wrong, unless it includes a way to enrich their cronies with taxpayer money.
