Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Poor Mueller. After nearly a year as special counsel in the "Russiagate" probe, he has yet to accomplish either of his missions. His putative job is to expose "Russian meddling" in the 2016 presidential election, especially with respect to possible collusion between the campaign of now-president Donald Trump and the regime of Vladimir Putin. His real goal, of course, is to overturn that election by "getting" Trump on something -- anything will do -- that Congress can treat, and that the public will accept, as impeachable/indictable.

So far Mueller's secured indictments of a few Trump associates on charges having little or nothing to do with his overt mission, and of a few Russians for running an Internet "troll farm" that posted some cheesy social media ads. But he has yet to put real meat on his mandate and doesn't seem to be getting much closer to Trump himself than when he started.

Now he's hitching his wagon to Stormy Daniels's star. Why? There are two plausible reasons.

What a funny opinion piece. I don't think he is desperate at all. He is finding wrong doing after wrong doing by Trump's amateurs. Let's just repeat Watergate was a long investigation and it didn't result in a fraction of what Mueller has found so far. Let's also not forget who appointed Mueller and that Mueller is a Republican after all. There is so much smoke so far we are all chocking.

Maybe Dotard was just manipulated by his flunkies, the Mercers and Russians but come on now Donnie-deal-Maker is way too smart for that right?

Why does everyone on the right just throw out "Soros" whenever someone brings up evidence based links to right wing billionaires? He's like the right wing's wet dream boogeyman.

Mr Mueller has never said he has anything on Pres Trump.

There's a not so subtle difference.

That aside, Mr Mueller is not investigating Pres Trump specifically. As a refresher...

Seems that the CounterPunch crew is none too bright.

"That hush money seems to be the excuse for the raids, but as the Washington Post reports, they are "part of an investigation referred by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III to federal prosecutors in New York ... ""

Mueller is smart. When NY AG Schneidermann brings charges and gets a conviction against Cohen Trump cannot pardon him.

@#11 ... Mueller is smart. When NY AG Schneidermann brings charges and gets a conviction against Cohen Trump cannot pardon him. ...

Wasn't this referral to the federal authorities in NYC, not NY state authorities.

But to your point, I read a couple months ago that Mr Mueller is leaving a nice bread crumb trail for state AG's to use should Mr Mueller's investigation be shut down.

Reminder: Trump's lawyer has been raided, his national security adviser has been convicted, his campaign manager indicted, other campaign aides cooperating with special counsel and the president himself is the subject of an FBI investigation.

The "desperation" I see is coming from Humpy and the Trumpets.

FTA:

"And if this president is successfully removed, will there ever again be a presidential election that isn't immediately followed by an open-ended "find something, anything" probe like Mueller's?"

If there is probable cause then they should be investigated. No man is above the law.

If Trump had been successful in his attempts to lock "crooked Hillary" (who has not been indicted or convicted of any crime) up would that mean we would be locking up the losers in Presidential elections from now on?

#14 | Posted by donnerboy at 2018-04-11 03:39 PM | Reply

Trump has the power to pardon anyone, so why is he trying to shutdown the Mueller investigation when he can just pardon anyone who gets convicted after the fact? I figure it must be because whatever he fears will be uncovered is so egregious pardoning people won't be politically palatable for him. So, he has to shutdown the investigation to keep whatever he fears being exposed from coming to light.

And you know this how? Sorry, did the investigation suddenly wrap up and he only told you? Did Mueller let you read all his files secretly? OH! Maybe you are a mind reader?!

No? None of the above? You have no clue what Mueller has but are merely guessing because the investigation has put Trump in handcuffs? Yeah...

By the way, how about them indictments eh? And Trump's lawyer going down now too? Funny stuff. Glad Mueller is draining the swamp as you demanded.

@#16 ... Trump has the power to pardon anyone ...

Constitution, Section II, Article 2

...he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment....

I interpret that as meaning only federal crimes.

That sure isn't where it is going ace. mule'er is all over the map on what he is looking into. His sole purpose is to throw Trump out of office anyway he can. So far he is doing it with a huge pile of bs and distracting the government from real work.

Those two sections seem to cover all of what Mr Mueller is doing beyond what you think he is allowed to do.

Indeed, Mr Mueller's rigor in not expanding the scope of his investigation beyond the original prescribed intent is evident by his turning over some info he discovered to the US Attorney in NY for independent investigation.
