That's cute and all... But lets get back to reality because numbers are our friends.

IF you had read the article, you'd know this is not a pattern and the numbers in London PROVE gun control proponents correct.

Last year, London had HALF as many murders as New York. You are cherry picking a three month spike of violence out of a DECADE of data in one city out of the ENTIRE European continent and saying it proves gun control doesn't work.

In addition, the Police Chief in London says the rate has gone up as gang activity rose during the recent period of economic decline and a cut to the police force.

#29 | Posted by Sycophant at 2018-04-11 03:41 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

So when outside factors affect the quality of life, quality of government, etc... unrest increases and violence goes up?

Sounds like it has nothing to do with the weapon available, but more to do with the quality of the environment to me. As once the quality went down, people found a way to arm themselves and cause violence.

And if this 3 month blip has so little importance, why make such a drastic (and stupid) move as to ban knives?

#30 | Posted by kwrx25 at 2018-04-11 03:46 PM | Reply

Headline Fail: London didn't ban knives.

The knife is legal to carry as long as it has a folding blade not over 3 inches long. That hasn't changed.

Lets unpack this:

First, it's also the issue of less police on the streets. That is changing now.
Second, this "blip" would be far higher with guns on the streets. Its simply easier to kill people, multiple people, with guns.
Third, THEY DIDN'T BAN KNIVES! The law already said you can't carry a knife unless its got a folding blade of less than 3 inches. They are merely going to enforce it now.

I can't speak to laws being ignored, but there are more firearms in the hands of private Asutralians today than there were in 1997, post confiscation.

I work with a lot of Brits and a lot of Aussies. The one thing they really, really like about the US is the access to weapons. They think our healthcare system is crazy, but they really like guns.

"25 gun murders a day is the standard here."

What's the murder rate in New Zealand, where access to firearms is little different than it is here?

How about Switzerland?

They have to report their firearms to the national registry.

Carrying a firearm requires a license. The license requires a background check and both a written and practical firing examination.

So...little harder to get and carry guns there then here.
