Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The sheriff of a California county with an outsized number of police shootings once said that it was "better financially" to kill suspects than wound them. Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood was looking for an endorsement in 2006 when he posed the question, "When a deputy shoots somebody, which way is better financially? To cripple them or kill them for the county?" "Kill them?" someone off camera asks before Youngblood answers "Absolutely."

OK, gotcha, Sheriff.

All lives matter?

Nope.

Money always matters most?

Kern County is also where the cops and the DA colluded to make up stories and false accusations of ritual satanic sexual abuse in the 80s.

So, not a whole lot has changed.

Damned right. You don't shoot to wound. Wounded people shoot back. Wounded people sue cops who shot them whe they were committing crimes. Double tap center mass, then flick em in the eyeball.

I guess the bootlickers reckon a cop will check their DR profile to see which side they are on before they smoke them for carrying a cell phone.

#6 Au contraire, my trusting friend. I have it on good authority that we should all give up our guns because the police are right there to protect us at all times. Which is it...cops are dirty and we can't trust them OR cops are like guardian angels and we should therefore abandon our right to firearms?

You mean wounded people sue cops who shot them when they were holding a cell phone in their grandma's back yard.

Maybe if a cop shot one of your relatives for no reason you'd develop some compassion.

When pulled over for speeding on a deserted road, it is also better financially to shoot the cop rather than take the ticket.

Killing innocent people is fine if it will save money.

They've already run your plate by then.
It's better to do an e-brake 180 at speed, and then charge back at him while firing. He won't have time to get your tag #. Unless he has a dash cam.

You may just want to slow down.

so, I take it that the addition of 500 pages of new tax code didn't "simplify" your taxes so they now fit on a postcard.

idiocracy indeed!

Shooting to kill isn't the problem...

It's when you keep shooting after the threat is neutralized and you make damn sure paramedics don't get there in time to do anything.

That's the issue.

The only people who claim they are coming for all our guns are the NRA. NO one else of any legitimacy is saying that.

What is being said is that the cops are much less likely to shoot you if they have much less reason to believe you armed.

Common sense just isn't a strength for you, is it?

I suspect this comment is going to make future shootings more expensive when the jury has it explained to them by the plaintiff's attorneys.

Actually, neither the military or police forces practice to wound as that is totally impractical in a firefight/shooting situation. Shooting to wound is a myth and only happens accidentally. One practices to shoot for center body mass.

#22 | Posted by MSgt at 2018-04-11 12:46 PM | Reply

I know everyone trains center mass, but I find it odd that there aren't more (any?) incidences of cops shooting somebody in the legs. I've seen a few videos recently of cops shooting deranged people that are charging them with a screw driver, pipe, knife, etc Hindsight is 20/20, but some of the situations played out to where the cop had enough time and distance to shoot for the legs and still go lethal.

#23 | POSTED BY 101CHAIRBORNE AT 2018-04-11 12:53 PM | FLAG: Many who are 'spot on' hitting a paper target, many time totally miss, even at close range, due to the adrenaline surge and stress of the situation, etc. As for shooting at legs, hard to hit standing still, let alone moving, so easy to miss and then a ricochet off the ground which can hit an innocent bystander - plus after missing the shot the perp may, by that time be on top of/grapeling the LEO. It's movie 'stuff' where you always see shooting to wound. Do talk to any LEO about this if you know any.

#24 | Posted by MSgt at 2018-04-11 01:38 PM | Reply

If a cop pulls his gun, it is not wounding force he is carrying, it is deadly force. At this point, it is not reason or thought involved in what is happening, it is training reinforced monthly. I doubt I could not hit center of mass if I had to use a firearm, 40 years of training would be hard to negate and I no longer qualify every so often. MSGT is correct, you seldom hit your target in the opening moments of a fire fight. But you take a breath and training kicks in.

The reality of getting shot with a high powered weapon. 1/3 the time you will die in less than 3 minutes. 1/3 the time you will be maimed, lose a limb or be parallelized. 1/3 the time you will recover.

"One practices to shoot for center body mass.

Practices? I prefer the term "premeditates."
Soldiers and cops are premeditated killers.
They don't kill in the heat of the moment, they kill in a manner they've spent years training for and playing out in their minds.

#27 | Posted by snoofy, How twisted is your perception? Cops don't go to work hoping for the opportunity to put someone on a slab. Soldiers actually pray in groups that nothing happens when they go out on missions. Karma would be to have you put in one of those situations where it is kill or be killed. I'll send flowers to your service.

You're very wrong about that. Cops are out there looking for Gorillas In The Mist right now.

"Soldiers actually pray in groups that nothing happens when they go out on missions."
They pray that nothing happens to them.

"Karma would be to have you put in one of those situations where it is kill or be killed."
I've never heard Sophie's Choice portrayed as a lesson in Karma before.

You never shoot to wound. Whether you're a cop, a criminal, a solider, or just someone trying to defend yourself or others.

If you're going to attempt to wound, don't even bother pulling your gun.

If any police department has a problem with this reality, my recommendation would be for them to prohibit their officers from carrying firearms. Maybe Snoofy will apply.
