Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A new U.S. advisory board created to help rewrite federal rules for importing the heads and hides of African elephants, lions and rhinos is stacked with trophy hunters, including some members with direct ties to President Donald Trump and his family. A review by The Associated Press of the backgrounds and social media posts of the 16 board members appointed by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke indicates they will agree with his position that the best way to protect critically threatened or endangered species is by encouraging wealthy Americans to shoot some of them.

One appointee co-owns a private New York hunting preserve with Trump's adult sons. The oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., drew the ire of animal rights activists after a 2011 photo emerged of him holding a bloody knife and the severed tail of an elephant he killed in Zimbabwe.

The first meeting of the International Wildlife Conservation Council was scheduled for Friday.

Trump has decried big-game hunting as a "horror show" in tweets. But under Zinke, a former Montana congressman who is an avid hunter, the Fish and Wildlife Service has quietly moved to reverse Obama-era restrictions on bringing trophies from African lions and elephants into the United States.

Your reps and sens have websites. So, write to them. Ask this question: what is your position on big-game hunting and the importation of big-game trophies.

Note when you asked the question, save a copy of the question and set a reminder to yourself to ask again in a week.

When/if they fail to respond, send the question again while including the number of times you've tried before.

They work for us. If they do not have the decency to respond, they do not deserve to serve.

Why is this shocking? His entire cabinet consists of people against the goals and objectives the departments they're supposedly "running".

Isn't the point of trophy hunting game about money?
Doesn't the cost of trophy hunting game in Africa goes to protecting game reserves?
Doesn't trophy hunting fund breeding programs?
Employ and bust local economy?
ensure poaching doesn't happen?
Selective harvesting to remove sick and old members of breeding stock?
Again correct me if im wrong but isn't African trophy hunting a net good?

I'm all for trophy hunting but you are not allowed to use a gun. You have to fight them up close with a club or a knife. That way the animal has a chance to take your head home and stick it on his wall.

It would be great if that were true. They work for the people who give them money. They could not care much less about anyone who hasn't sent them a big check.

Isn't the point of trophy hunting game about money?

miniscule amounts compared to photographic tourism

Doesn't the cost of trophy hunting game in Africa goes to protecting game reserves?

again, miniscule amounts

Doesn't trophy hunting fund breeding programs?

Again, miniscule amounts

Employ and bust local economy?

Almost none

ensure poaching doesn't happen?

encourages poaching by creating an economy based on limited quotas.

Selective harvesting to remove sick and old members of breeding stock?

sick and old members are not trophies.

Again correct me if im wrong but isn't African trophy hunting a net good?

Trump has a trophy wife so it's only natural he'd look for trophy hunters for this department.

That's how he rolls and that's how trolls. Not for nothing he is troll in chief. Saboteurs for European style socialists need to be hunted down and fired. Each and everyone of them. Replace them with good people.

Lol. Yeah, right. Like that's the only thing they are doing. (That's like when they call old growth trees "dead and dying" just because they aren't getting physically larger.)

News flash m0n, trees are renewable. Plant a seedling and shazam......... you get a new tree. Oh, I forgot, you aren't in favor of using things that are renewable. You would rather make things out of plastic and steel.

"News flash m0n, trees are renewable."

You lie.
Bigly lies.
Sad!

Old growth forest is not renewable. You can't chop one down, plant trees, and have another old growth forest, not even in a hundred years.

This is also a thing you really ought to know, living in timber country.

Stay in school, kids!

Very true. Old growth forests are a wonder to behold if you can actually find one in the wild.
