Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Attorneys for President Trump are reportedly considering asking special counsel Robert Mueller to set a hard end date for his investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election as one of the preconditions for an interview with president. While Trump's lawyers remain split on the terms of such a deal, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday, they also want Mueller to agree to parameters on the scope of such an interview. One idea being floated is that Mueller would agree to wrap up the probe within 60 days of interviewing Trump.

Mueller will never agree to a time limit, but that is probably being offered solely to have something to "give back" in the negotiations regarding the scope of the interview.

Pres Trump must be very concerned about something with regards to the investigation. His actions of late are pointing more and more in that direction.

Innocent people always try to negotiate to end the investigation.

it's just such fun to imagine mueller asking trump a question that requires just a bit of explanation, not just yes or no, and sit back and let him speak. there will be academic industries created to revise commonly held ideas on jurisprudence..philosophy and the wisdom of breast feeding. trump is a gift, a real life walking talking picture of dorian gray. i sure hope mueller comes through

I don't believe Trump would lend himself to yes/no answers in the moment given yes/no questions; he's just that maniacal.

Yeah, he'll talk to Mueller. He'll say, "Hiya, Bob. Ya got 60 days. ‘Bye!"

Trump is narcissistic enough to believe he could talk to Mueller and come out on top. But like many big-mouthed bullies, Trump is a coward. He won't talk to Mueller.

Right, Donald?

He won't talk to Mueller.

A wise decision, says every f******g lawyer with a brain.

But the topic is the Buffoon.

Too bad there won't be any cameras to witness the 'mother of all interviews.'

The public deserves better but I'm afraid all we're going to get is a lot weaseling from the head weasel.

A Grand Jury indictment (right before the midterms) is what I'm looking forward to because, realistically, I doubt we'll ever see a sitting president go on trial when impeachment and resignation options are on the table.

The midterms are the key. The House has to change hands and the Senate has to be severely weakened. It's absolutely imperative or we're going to be saddled with this incompetent gaggle of slugs until 2020.

How's that for a nightmare scenario?

The negotiation is the nuance.

Play not play.

Play equal risk. Not play equal grand jury subpoena.

Bigger risk?

There's no way Trump is going to ace an inteview. It's a near certainty he's going to step into wet cement.

What Trump does depends on what's in Putin's hand delivered letter inside a lacquered black box. That's a secret that may never be broken.

Trump's lawyers are floating him talking with Mueller under certain conditions, like maybe a 60-day termination date for Mueller's investigation.

But I and every other lawyer will tell you that under NO conditions should any lawyer for Trump condone him talking with Mueller. Also, there is no way any lawyer would believe that Mueller would ever agree to a fixed termination date for any investigation into areas as broad and complicated as this one -- unless Mueller happened to have decided to close his investigation soon anyway.

So, how about this for a possible scenario as to what's really happening here:

Fully against his lawyers' advice, Trump tells his lawyers he wants an interview with Mueller anyway and demands they set it up. The lawyers, having no choice, tell Trump: "If you must interview with Mueller, then at least let us try to negotiate some favorable conditions first." Trump, of course, agrees to that -- why wouldn't he? So, now, the lawyers are trying for whatever scraps of conditions they can get out of Mueller -- all the while hoping that Trump will change his mind.

If the above scenario is correct, then Trump really is going to give Mueller an interview -- unless he changes his mind.

I'm not a lawyer and even I know that Trump will do exactly what he's doing right now. He'll announce how anxious he is to talk to Mueller (like it's all his idea) and then set so many terms and conditions that Mueller cannot possibly agree . . and then blame it all on Mueller when the interview doesn't happen.

He's doing the same thing about meeting with Kim Jong-un.

Trump is basically a coward and this is how cowards act.
