Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, March 05, 2018

Romantic fantasy The Shape of Water won the best picture Oscar on Sunday, the film industry's most prestigious honor, on a night where themes of female empowerment and activism almost overshadowed the awards. The Fox Searchlight movie's Mexican filmmaker, Guillermo del Toro, won best director, dashing the hopes of a rare win by a woman or a black filmmaker. ... As expected, Britain's Gary Oldman won his first Oscar for playing World War Two leader Winston Churchill in Warner Bros.' Darkest Hour, while Frances McDormand's woman in a vengeful fury was a popular best actress winner for Fox Searchlight's dark comedy Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

The 90th Oscars, watch the world's greatest storytellers and singers get in Trump's dotard face. Beautiful and hilarious, the music rivaled the Grammys.

Glad you watched it Bay, you were one of the only ones. Did you have an Oscar party and dress up as Betty Davis? Must have been spectacular!

Does water have a shape???

well it certainly doesn't have to conform to someone else's pre-determined definition of what, if any, the shape should be. personally i think mother nature already made that determination

I liked the best actor and actress awards for those parts, but Shape of Water? Meh. Maybe there wasn't much else.

"well it certainly doesn't have to conform to someone else's pre-determined definition of what, if any, the shape should be."

Actually, it does, just like any other liquid, have to conform to whatever container someone else puts it in.

I know this is hard..the shape of WATER...we'll do CONTAINERS on another thread

"A liquid is a nearly incompressible fluid that conforms to the shape of its container"

en.wikipedia.org

It's not that hard, unless you forgot what you learned in elementary science class.

"The Fox Searchlight movie's Mexican filmmaker, Guillermo del Toro, won best director, dashing the hopes of a rare win by a woman or a black filmmaker."

Whoever wrote this sentence sounds very conflicted.

Shape pertains to a geometric construct, mathematically demonstrable at a given point in time

Riddle me this...water, not contained assumes what particular shape? or are we going to assume we can figure this all out on the basis of the contents of a sippy cup?

"water, not contained"

Methinks you missed the point of the movie.

I guess I should check this movie out while it is still on the big screen. Visually just about anything by Guillermo Del Toro is going to be impressive. He is an artist.

It was not only a great film but it needed to win at this time in our history. We have spent way too much time celebrating human & human sexual relationships and not seen past this binary. It was way past time that we finally get to see human & human/fish hybrid relationships recognized as the loving relationships that they are. I am glad to see the Oscars finally do something to erase this racist stain on their zhetory (I can bring myself to use the outdated patriarchal word "history").

Liberals say mother nature doesnt do that. We are what we are based on feelings.

You do realize that your feelings are nothing more than chemical reactions in your body, right? As in mother nature made that.

I think, that in a spirit of comity, that we should all come together and try not to hurt each others chemical reactions.

Oscar is pointless, like our Trumpkin.. when all people just watch blockbuster movies, the Oscars are given to movies who never see it... Oscar make a change and go with what people want... or add categories which will attract people to watch it.
