[snip] So in March, lawmakers wanted Comey to tell them what was up. And what they heard from the director did not match what they were hearing in the media. According to two sources familiar with the meetings, Comey told lawmakers that the FBI agents who interviewed Flynn did not believe that Flynn had lied to them, or that any inaccuracies in his answers were intentional. As a result, some of those in attendance came away with the impression that Flynn would not be charged with a crime pertaining to the Jan. 24 interview. Nine months later, with Comey gone and special counsel Robert Mueller in charge of the Trump-Russia investigation, Flynn pleaded guilty to one count of making false statements to the FBI in that Jan. 24 questioning. What happened?

This case is weird.

The FBI had concluded that Flynn didn't lie and that any false information provided was without intent and his case appears to have been cleared.

Then Mueller's team charges him with lying to the FBI and Flynn admits guilt.

Even more strange - days after pleading guilty the judge who oversaw his case recused himself from the Russia investigation and now his sentencing has been delayed until May.

It would have been fascinating to be a fly on the wall during all of this.

This is a preemptive post to halt the straw man brigade:

In no way am I suggesting that any wrongdoing occurred with this case.

Unless something gets revealed to suggest otherwise, all available evidence points to this case being handled properly.

It's not the Jan. 24th phone call likely, it's the December 29th ones. Kislyak was summoned to the State Department that day and was apprised of the new sanctions being levied against Russia by the Obama Administration and was reported to be "livid." Upon leaving, Kislyak himself called Michael Flynn on Flynn's personal cell phone while Flynn was vacationing, beginning the first of 5 calls between the two men that day.

In between, Flynn contacted Mar-a-Lago and spoke with other members of the Trump transition team for instructions on what to relay to the Russian ambassador. US IC had a tap on Kislyak phone and recorded their entire conversations. Allegedly one of these was the conversation in which Flynn assured the Russians not to retaliate for the time being because Trump would take care of things once he was inaugurated.

Flynn absolutely lied about the contents of these phone calls because he had no idea US IC was listening in, though obviously he should have.

Is it possible that Flynn did not know that Comey had said that?

My sources say Flynn accepted the plea deal to avoid Mueller going after his son. Flynn did nothing wrong.

Flynn admitted in his plea that he lied to the FBI about several December conversations with Kislyak. In one, on Dec. 22, he contacted the Russian ambassador about the incoming administration's opposition to a U.N. resolution condemning Israeli settlements as illegal and requested that Russia vote against or delay it, court records say. The ambassador later called back and indicated Russia would not vote against it, the records say.

In another conversation, on Dec. 29, Flynn called the ambassador to ask Russia not to escalate an ongoing feud over sanctions imposed by the Obama administration, court records say. The ambassador later called back and said Russia had chosen not to retaliate, the records say.

Flynn admitted as a part of his plea that when the FBI asked him on Jan. 24 -- four days after Trump was inaugurated -- about his dealings with the Russians, he did not truthfully describe the interactions. But perhaps more interestingly, he said others in the transition knew he was in contact with Kislyak.

If Comey said what he is alleged to have said by York, it must have been in a completely different context or the agents being mentioned were not questioning him about what he's now pleaded guilty to. Obama personally warned Trump about Michael Flynn before the inauguration and the email being touted by Graham and Grassley where Obama inquired directly to Comey and Sally Yates to apprise him about potential national security concerns surrounding what classified information regarding Russia should be told to incoming Trump officials, most pointedly Flynn because they all knew about Flynn's calls with Kislyak. Flynn did not admit to the real content of the December 29th phone calls in his interviews ever and Comey knew it for certain. He had either listened to the recordings or read the transcripts himself.

So everyone that accepts a plea deal or settles out of court to avoid the cost of litigation is factually guilty in your opinion? The Left's view on the court system sure does seem to change depending on the defendant. That is pretty sad.

"Obama personally warned Trump about Michael Flynn before the inauguration"

Hell, even Christie told Trump not to hire Flynn and that is allegedly one of the reasons Trump and Javanka fired Christie as the head of the transition team and replaced him with Pence.

It is scary to think someone holding those views has anything to do with the law. I would also question your definition of a 'conservative' given this entire site is nothing but a giant liberal safe space echo chamber. Defining anyone as a conservative that is to the right of random sampling of guys in the amyl nitrite line at a Miami Beach gay disco is laughable.

Ivanka Trump reportedly took over one of Chris Christie's transition team meetings and asked Michael Flynn what job he wanted

Ivanka Trump once "took over" a transition team meeting led by Chris Christie last fall and essentially told Michael Flynn that he could have whatever job he wanted because of his "amazing loyalty" to her father, The New Yorker reported Monday in an extensive profile of Vice President Mike Pence.

As transition chair, Christie warned President Donald Trump not to give a high-level job to Flynn, a retired general whom President Barack Obama ousted as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency. The New Yorker reported that Flynn was not on any of the Christie-led transition team's lists for government appointments because Christie considered him too risky.

Flynn said he would settle for national security adviser if he could not be defense secretary, the report said. Hours after the meeting, Christie was reportedly pushed out and replaced by Pence, who was not opposed to Flynn's hiring. Roughly a week later, Trump announced Flynn would be his national security adviser.

"The Left's view on the court system sure does seem to change depending on the defendant. That is pretty sad."

What's sad about being able to recognize specific acts of injustice perpetrated by the courts against innocent defendants such as the Central Park Five?

It is scary to think someone holding those views has anything to do with the law.

He doesn't hold those views, you assigned them to him. He never said that a plea always means the defendant is admitting guilt. The point is the preponderance of known evidence points to Flynn having plead guilty because his is guilty.

What you fail to realize is that Flynn's plea is very limited and most people realize it's likely Flynn has committed far more crimes than these few charges. And yes, he was supposedly given the opportunity to spare his son from charges too. Most observers believe that Mueller is holding the possibility of filing even more charges over Flynn unless he cooperates fully with the investigation.

In re: et_al, he probably could care less what you think of him and if he does, he'll tell you himself.
