Democratic lawmakers have introduced measures to stop President Donald Trump's idea of a massive military parade to highlight Defense Department might, calling it a waste of time and resources. "President Trump should understand that America doesn't have to display its military might like North Korea or others who need to puff up their importance," Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., said in a statement announcing his legislation Thursday. "The world understands our strength. It is demonstrated every day around the world by the brave men and women of our military." Earlier this week, White House and Pentagon officials confirmed reports that Trump has asked military leaders for the outline of large-scale parade later this year to showcase troops and military equipment. White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said the goal is to create an event where the entire country "can come together to show support and honor our military."

Per the link ...

Democrats should not introduce legislation unless it's bipartisan, and if it can't be done as bipartisan legislation then Democrats should not stand in the way of Trump's ridiculous machinations because THAT would speak for itself.

If it's only Democrats it's just a matter of time before Trump will start the moronic serial-tweet-storm ad nauseam of Democrats not being patriotic.

"If it's only Democrats it's just a matter of time before Trump will start the moronic serial-tweet-storm ad nauseam of Democrats not being patriotic."

That's been the mantra of the right wing since "I am an Okee from Muskogee." Meanwhile, "patriotic" America has gotten us into unnecessary wars costing trillions, many thousands of lives and accomplishing absolutely nothing. I have to wonder what someone my age, who supported the Vietnam War, thinks when they find products made in the still Communist nation of Vietnam. So, to hold a military parade today, and celebrate our militaristic past is basically a celebration of the obviously wrongheaded values of the war mongers. It is as if these fools think that if they just wave their flags harder it will somehow make their choices be correct, sorry, those choices were stupid and wrong and probably actually crimes against humanity. No, I am not celebrating the actions of our military, I am ashamed of the actions of our military. It's time to remember why we changed the name from Dept. of War to the Dept. of Defense. I want and need defense but I will never support nor celebrate aggressive wars against nations that have never attacked us.

Donald never misses a chance to make money.

This remains the thing that amazes me most, why consevatives have learned to live with Donald's grifting.

#5 it's not really that mysterious at all when you consider the fact that making money is paramount to every other consideration to folks on the right.

Doesn't matter how one gets there, they just need to have a large bank account and as much stuff as possible.

Donnie want to do this in order to massage his ego.

Anyone who thinks otherwise still doesn't understand who Donald Trump is.

Donnie want to do this in order to massage his ego.

He's probably sent the Pentagon some videos of the Nuremberg rallies so they can see what's he has in mind.

The People should lead decide. Twitter bomb his ass.

Or. Why don't we all just chip in and buy them a beer? 🍺 🍻

I bet our "military" would appreciate that way more. Or we could "honor" them with a pay raise. I guarantee they would appreciate $$ 💵 $$ in the pocket way more than goose stepping for Humpy Trumpy and his oligarchs.

DONNER

" Why don't we all just chip in and buy them a beer?"

They're gonna need lots of cold beers when they get out of that parade.

And that doesn't count all the hours of practice they have to do.

July is blistering hot in D.C.

They'll want to do it in early November.

For about half the cost of the parade we could buy them each a decent bottle of scotch.

For about half the cost of the parade...

A parade doesn't have to cost much. Just put 40 boy scouts in a truck and tell donald it was the biggest military procession in history.

He'll buy it. He'll even have someone Photoshop some pictures to hang in the lobby of his hotel beside the fake Time covers.

Has there been an DR Righties that actually supports the military parade as alluded to by Trump (i.e., not a Veteran's parade)?

In stead this is the new military, the softer gentler safe place military.

The U.S. Army will soon launch a redesign of Basic Combat Training intended to build more discipline after many commanders complained that new soldiers often show up to their first units with a sloppy appearance and undisciplined attitudes...The new program of instruction is the result of surveys taken from thousands of leaders who have observed a trend of new soldiers fresh out of training displaying a lack of obedience and poor work ethic as well as being careless with equipment, uniform and appearance,www.yahoo.com

Yeah... You lost every war that you came across, but you looked SHARP while doing it.

Maybe they should give this "new military" a chance. Can't hurt. It would be just about impossible for it to perform any worse than the "old military".

Leading this parade could be a crack brigade of wheelchair warriors, doing maneuvers like the Shriners. Followed by the shambling hoards of homeless vets.
