Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, February 11, 2018

On the night of Nov. 18, Border Patrol Agent Rogelio Martinez was found dying on the side of an interstate in West Texas. There were immediate signs it had been an accident. Martinez's partner, Stephen Garland (who suffered a head injury and doesn't recall the incident), had radioed for help, saying he thought he ran into a culvert. But President Trump and his allies saw an opportunity to whip up anti-immigrant fervor.

The facts were knowable early on in that case. Culberson County Sheriff Oscar Carrillo, one of the first responders on the scene, told the Dallas Morning News less than two weeks after the incident that he thought a tractor-trailer could have accidentally sideswiped the border agents. "From the beginning we were radioed to assist in the incident as an injury, not an assault," he said.

But that didn't fit Trump's narrative about murderous immigrants. Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it.

Corky's mantra. The DR is littered with the empty carcasas of stories with no legs.

One would think there should be a limit to how much dishonesty Trump supporters could tolerate from Trump, but there isn't any such limit. They will go along with any lie he wants to tell. At this point it doesn't make him look any worse, we know what he is all about, but does make them look worse.

History is going to look back on the trump presidency and come down with a mighty hand; that verdict and assessment will not be kind to Trumpvoters© and Congressional GOP and right-wing media for defending lie after lie after lie.

@#6 ...One would think there should be a limit to how much dishonesty Trump supporters could tolerate from Trump, ...

imo, the error in your comment is that you think that the supporters of Pres Trump think he has been dishonest.

I remain to be convinced that is the case.

There are two very distinct bubbles of news and information "out there" in the political realm nowadays. You are in one, the supporters of Pres Trump are in the other. Each one thinks the other is wrong.

I just hope the Country can survive this bifurcation.

No you are wrong. There is the truth and there are lies. Trump, his side, and his supporters are the ones that do nothing but lie. They are the 4th Reich. They will be thrown out of power by Mueller and by the American citizens that still have 2 brain cells left to run together.

America will start to heal once the party of racism, fascism, and mother (R)ussia is out of power, and their cockroach and parasitic supporters go crawl back under the rocks they came from.

Do Border Patrol agents get killed in the line of duty? Yes they do, far too often.www.cbsnews.com

The Mexican border with the US has slowly become a war zone due to the activities of the cartels. A solo agent does not have much of a chance ageist multiple men armed with automatic weapons.

"The Border Patrol website lists 38 agents who have died since late 2003, some attacked while working along the border, and other fatalities in traffic accidents."

Why is Mexico sending its traffic here?
Ban traffic!

38 agents in 15 years is hardly a war zone.

I lived near the mexican border for years. My stepson had a tattoo shop on the mexican side. Half the cops and border agents were on cartel payrolls. Right before I moved up here they busted the sheriff and 6 deputies who were escorting vans of drugs to the checkpoint and then making a show of "searching" the van. then they would be waved through the checkpoint. No need to search them twice, right?

The valley boys protect their own.

Including Rogelio Martinez, five Border Patrol agents have been murdered in the line of duty since 2003, which means their annual chance of being murdered in the line of duty is one in 52,589. More than 238,000 Americans have been murdered since 2003 with a nationwide death rate of one in 19,431 per year. Regular Americans are almost 3 times as likely to be murdered in any year from 2003 through 2017 than Border Patrol agents were.

Being a border patrol agent is safer than being a normal average American.

Damn liberal facts!

Do you have some citation to refute the facts or are you just passing wind?
