Trans Murder Rates : The Data In this post I will examine the available data about the relative level of violence faced by transgender people. I will specifically focus on murder rates, because murder is the ultimate act of violence and because data on murders is more reliable and more widely available than data of other violent crimes. So lets plug the numbers, 100,000 * 19 / 1,400,000 = 1.4 This is lower than both the murder rates of men (6.6) or women (1.8). So the data says that trans people are murdered at a lower rate than the general population. Being trans in 2015 in the United States actually lowered your chances of getting murdered. Read that last sentence again or look at this bar chart.

I stumbled across this today.

I created this thread to challenge the voracity of the conclusions drawn by this analysis.

I am hoping that Laura can provide some context, clarification and additional data.

The article is a pile of ----.

From the GLAAD link he "used" to generate his "data"

2016 has now overtaken 2015 as the deadliest year on record for transgender people in the United States. In 2015, 21 transgender women were killed in the United States, nearly all of them transgender women of color.
In 2016, the deaths of 27 transgender people were reported. That's a rate of more than two transgender people killed every month. This number does not include transgender people whose deaths were not reported due to misgendering in police reports, news stories, and sometimes by the victim's family. (Due to misgendering and misidentifying in initial media reporting, the death of India Monroe in 2016 was not known until 2017.)

He used 21 in his calculations not 27. So when such a basic failure of interpretation and data is used the rest of the article is just that-crap

"He used 21 in his calculations not 27."

You're misgendering the author of the article in question.

Transgenders Have a Lower Murder Rate Than Men or Women?

I wonder what portion of that "lower murder rate" is simply because they're transgendered.
