Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, February 04, 2018

For a year now, lobbyists have swarmed the White House under President Donald Trump, attaining positions within various federal agencies just days after leaving government affairs jobs at lobbying firms, trade groups and corporations. Back in 2009, then-President Barack Obama issued an executive order on ethics that barred lobbyists from joining agencies they had lobbied in the previous two years. But Trump weakened that order shortly after becoming president, allowing lobbyists to join agencies they recently lobbied so long as they recused themselves from working on specific issues on which they had lobbied within the previous two years. The Trump administration has been sidestepping even that stipulation -- in some cases by ignoring it, and in others, by granting ethics waivers.

In late August of 2017, White House counsel Donald McGahn issued a waiver for a new member of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), previously a lobbyist for the corn syrup industry, to advise the department on dietary guidelines:

"I hereby waive the requirements of paragraph 7 of the Ethics Pledge to Ms. Kailee Tkacz to allow her to advise the Secretary of Agriculture and other senior Department officials with respect to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans process. I have determined that it is in the public interest to grant this limited waiver because of Ms. Tkacz's expertise in the process by which the Dietary Guidelines for Americans are issued every five years."

More from the article:

Tkacz was director of food policy for the Corn Refiners Association, a trade group for corn syrup manufacturers, for two years before immediately leaving for the Trump administration in July 2017, according to her LinkedIn profile. Before that, she lobbied for the Snack Food Association and the National Grocers Association. Prior to her lobbying days, she spent a year as a research analyst on tax policy at the American Legislative Exchange Council, a group of corporations and conservative lawmakers that work together to craft business-friendly model legislation, and a year at the Charles Koch Institute, named after its billionaire founder and the CEO and part-owner of the global fossil fuel and materials conglomerate Koch Industries.

Head of the CDC had to resign because she was investing in Tobacco. There is nothing beyond the ethics of this administration, this thread is just one more of many showing that the Trump administration has no ethics, doesn't care about right or wrong and will s**t on the Constitution. His supporters share his beliefs and are just as despicable as he is. Deplorables says it just right. Hillary had it right from the beginning.

speaking of dietary guidelines! how about those Coca-Cola super-bowl ads? isn't Coke (the drink), like, second only to nicotine as far as addictions go? isn't it like the most destructive ... drink ever, more than all illegal drugs combined?... UNbelieveable, those ads are. quite the mirror.

This is Boaz's dream come true.

Take that Michelle Obama!

How dare she suggest children eat healthy!?

I hope Hillary and Michelle tell conservatives to eat healthy, exercise and check to see if their gun is loaded before cleaning it.
Then we wait.

Liberals don't carry guns, just ask Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, St. Louis, New York and DC.

Yeah, Michelle held a gun to your head and told you to eat your vegetables. Dumb ass.

This isn't new and this isn't unique to the USDA. For the most part, governmental agencies rely on the experts in private industry to help frame policy and guidelines. There really is no other way to do it. Obviously, there can be slippery slopes but recognize it's always a slippery slope.

Ethics Laws - only for Democrats.

I remember when Obama appointed a Time Warner lobbyist to run the FCC. He was the only one that sounded the alarm about the fake net neutrality order, and was slandered for it.

You don't remember?

You must be blocking all those bad memories.

Obama's took all our guns, bibles and white women and then we were all vegeboarded!

That was right after Jade Helm declared Martial Law and rounded us up into FEMA camps.

You remember yet?

"the fake net neutrality order"

What fake net neutrality order?

What was fake about it?

Take your pick. Now we've got from fake net neutrality to not net neutrality at all, and there's no indication the individual states are getting it right this time.

Good! Now maybe she will make such bad decisions that everyone with the heads up their asses will finally realize how useless this organization is. If you need the government to tell you that you should eat good portions of healthy food, you are the problem, not government corruption. The USDA was bought and paid for long before any of us were alive, considering it was created as a form of legal discrimination to know which foods should be saved for whitey.

Re #19

Oh...so it had loopholes probably lobbied by the ISPs that could be later exploited.

In other words it wasn't perfect.

And I agree with that. And that is why we are supposed to have an FCC that supports and protects the People and not favor industry over people. .

So it wasn't "fake" as in fake news. It was real enough. And better than nothing.

Words mean things. But I guess we can't all use the best words.

Like Humpy Trumpy does.

This is where you're confused. It had so many loopholes, it was nothing. Fake Net Neutrality. Time Warner and the rest ensured it, that part you got right.

The "well it wasn't perfect" argument is one made from gross ignorance.

The upside is, now that it's been thrown out at the federal level, one of the states might get it right. I'm not holding my breath, but it's possible.

It's only useless because our elections are legalized bribery.

Remember how trump was going to fight back against the lobbyists for you? All he's fighting against is lobbyist unemployment.
