Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, February 05, 2018

New York Times editorial board: As [Paul] Ryan said on Tuesday in defending the House's decision to release the memo, "Transparency can reign supreme." Since the Republicans are now on board with greater transparency, they will no doubt push President Trump to release his tax returns, as every other major-party presidential nominee has done for the past four decades, won't they? How about the White House visitor logs, which the Trump administration started hiding from the public last year? Or, say, the names of all foreign governments and officials who have stayed -- at their own or at American taxpayers' expense -- at Trump's Washington hotel, at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida or at his golf courses and his other businesses since he became president?

Or the names of every foreign business with which the Trump Organization has a financial relationship, especially in countries where America has sensitive foreign policy interests, like China, India, Russia, Turkey or Saudi Arabia?

And, of course, Americans should have complete confidence now that congressional Republicans will demand complete transparency from all members of the president's campaign, transition team and administration in describing their dealings with representatives of a foreign power that tried to swing our election -- as well as from the special counsel who is investigating those efforts.

The party that demanded the release of Hillary Clinton's emails as a central plank of the 2016 presidential campaign must support all of this and more, right?

'Bout a day late and a dollar short on that one Boaz.
I know you hated the lack of transparency of the Obama administration, so did I. Now tell me why you're willing to accept it from Trump.

He will never release his tax returns, and as long as he's got useful idiots likes Boaz defending him, he never has to.

Is Obama also under investigation by the FBI for colluding with Russian spies to undermine our Democracy in order to retire?

And even if he was what would his grades have to do with anything?

Would they prove he was a Stable Genius?

One who has the best words? 🧐

Trump's people have been claiming that his returns have been under audit now for at least a couple of years. How many years does an audit general take to complete? Why is the IRS under Trump so inefficient?

I didn't read Obama's school records, but I wrote a memo saying one of his professors sent a text so he is totally vindicated.

If a candidate wants matching funds, they are required to release tax returns. Trump did not take matching funds, so is not required to show those documents.

Can somebody show me confidential sources and methods exposed in the memo? The DOJ and FBI were crowing about that pre-release and, while it was a great talking point, turns out to be yet another reason to question their credibility.

I haven't seen the first reason to question their credibility on Russia.

Sources and methods get burned if the opposition can tie unique information in the memo to unique individuals.

You're welcome.

"Can somebody show me confidential sources and methods exposed in the memo? "

Ahh. The old playing stupid ploy. There is a reason we don't release classified documents. For years decades and sometimes even never.

There is no easy way of telling what your adversaries can use against you or even how. And the more we tell you the more methods become even clearer and easier to exploit.

Can you tell me why we never bring Russian Spies into the White House and in particular the Oval Office?

Can you be corrupt and insane ?

Wouldn't just being deranged would cover both conditions?

Has Boaz been able to pass the Trump super genius intelligence test?

If he did then we could rule out the insanity defense for him when the Liberals come for him with Tikki Torches!

When we finally indict the realdonaldcorrupttraitor and decide who his supporting traitors are or who was just driven insane and are Veterans of The Psychic War.

"Veteran Of The Psychic Wars"

You see me now a veteran of a thousand psychic wars
I've been living on the edge so long
Where the winds of limbo roar
And I'm young enough to look at
And far too old to see
All the scars are on the inside
I'm not sure that there's anything left to me

Don't let these shakes go on
It's time we had a break from it
It's time we had some leave
We've been living in the flames
We've been eating up our brains
Oh please don't let these shakes go on

You ask me why I'm weary, why I can't speak to you
You blame me for my silence say It's time I changed and grew
But the war's still going on, dear, and there's no end that I know
And I can't say if we're ever...
I can't say if were ever gonna be free

It was a serious question and you went off on a weird tangent in lieu of providing an answer.

I asked it because prior to the memo being released, Democrats and Wray and certain others were screaming that releasing the memo would expose vital national security secrets. The memo did no such thing, which makes me question why so loudly raised a false alarm in the first place?

You wouldn't know what to do with them even if you had them. Unless you got a time machine slated for 2008, how the fnc# would his school records have any bearing on anything currently? You can't impeach a POTUS that's already served his term.

#21 | Posted by rstybeach11 at 2018-02-05 03:55 PM | Reply

Trump did not take matching funds, so is not required to show those documents.

Clearly, nobody is required to show these documents. If it was required, Trump wouldn't be eligible for POTUS.

It's not required, but it speaks VOLUMES when a candidate refuses to do something that has been standard practice in the modern political era.

Although, you raise a valid inquiry: Should candidates for POTUS be required to release their tax returns? Especially if they are known to have business dealings with organizations, agencies, and countries that are considered hostile to U.S. national security.

JEFFJ -

Here's the answer to which you seek:

The impending release of the so-called Nunes memo is alarming for three reasons. First, the apparent argument contained in the memo -- that a member of the Trump campaign was improperly targeted for surveillance -- betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of the applicable law and standards for obtaining a warrant under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. Second, the release of the Nunes memo puts the FBI in an excruciatingly unfair position: The bureau cannot effectively defend itself against allegations of shoddy workmanship without betraying confidential sources and methods. Third, and most disturbing, the release of the memo, over the vehement objections of the FBI and Justice Department, threatens to disrupt the trust necessary for effective congressional oversight of the intelligence community.

Then there's this:

Recall that in 2014, then-Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) released a document prepared by committee Democrats about the CIA's terrorist interrogation program that was rife with "material omissions of fact." Indeed, Feinstein and her staff did not interview a single CIA official involved in the interrogation program, because they did not want to hear inconvenient facts that might undermine their predetermined narrative. Former Democratic senator Bob Kerrey, who had sat on the intelligence committee, decried "the partisan nature of this report." Yet no one in the media decried its release, nor did the Obama administration suppress it. Instead, the Republican minority was allowed to publish a separate report and the CIA released a document of its own rebutting Feinstein's many falsehoods -- and then left it to the public to judge.

And more importantly (from the same source):

But there is nothing in the law that allows the government to suppress the release of a document simply because it has "material omissions of fact." The only justification for classifying information is to protect national security. Indeed, government officials are explicitly prohibited from preventing the release of a document under the guise of "classified information" because they believe it is politically biased or may embarrass the government. Executive Order 13526 , signed by President Barack Obama on Dec. 29, 2009, clearly states "In no case shall information be classified, continue to be maintained as classified, or fail to be declassified in order to: conceal violations of law, inefficiency, or administrative error; prevent embarrassment to a person, organization, or agency . . . or prevent or delay the release of information that does not require protection in the interest of the national security."

Harry Reid is a nutcase, and I doubt anyone would disagree with that statement.

Trump has bragged about it and then the only tax return he was able to produce where he actually paid taxes was from over a decade ago.

The idea that the Nunes Memo could potentially "threaten to disrupt the trust necessary for effective congressional oversight of the intelligence community" makes a lot of sense; and should not be considered something that is simply "politically biased or [that] may embarrass the government."

I'm not knowledgeable enough to debate the legitimacy of either arguments, however. So take the above with a grain of salt.

Paying taxes is for the hoi polloi

You know paying taxes and Tax transparency doesn't apply to the likes of Humpy Trumpy. He's leveled up. But he used cheat codes and we all know he did. He doesn't want us to see all his dirty billionaire tricks. He should have never fired Comey. Now I don't have to see them. Neener neener! And he has only his self and his stupid tweets to thank. I trust Mueller has them and has thoroughly gone through them by now. And I trust he will do the right thing. If he lives long enough.

November is rapidly approaching. And Humpy still hasnt figured out how to keep the government's lights on. There he goes not paying his bills again. I feel sorry for anyone who has to work for that guy! Saves money if you leave the lights out a few weeks. And only one lump of coal a day please! And Grumpy is gonna have borrow a few trillion from China 🇨🇳 or Russia 🇷🇺 . The trillion he just gave away to the 1%ers.

And I wonder how that "Level Playing Field" is coming along McTurtle?? We got that whole DACA thing solved? Or is it the fault of the party that has no control. No control except to shut down the government. None. Nada.
