Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, February 01, 2018

In their political afterlife, former politicians and their staffers are hoarding unspent campaign donations for years and using them to finance their lifestyle, advance their new careers and pay family members, an investigation by the Tampa Bay Times, 10News WTSP and TEGNA-owned TV stations found. Their spending makes a mockery of one of the fundamental principles of America's campaign finance laws: Donations must be spent only on politics, not politicians' personal lives.

Damn good article. It illuminates the low hanging fruit. If we can't pick that we're screwed.

Duh, that's why the running-for-office class was created. Like Newt, he knows he has no chance of winning anything. but he makes a fortune off of running.

Term limits and GOP Koolaid drinking won't solve anything. Voters need to pull their heads out of their asses and stop reelecting useless and anti-government incumbents.

I wouldn't exactly call this low hanging fruit. There are some legitimate expenses from those accounts, and if they made a rule, for example, that all the money had to be spent, returned, or donated by a certain time, then some politicians would just keep running for offices every so often to reset their time.

It's certainly something that could be dealt with.

Should go towards the Federal Deficit, 30 days after the election. New account starting at zero every campaign.

So howda ya figure dat??

Voting machines can be hacked and elections stolen... here in Texas, LBJ was known for doing just that.

If we had term limits then the maximum any politician can run is just 4 terms...

1) The politician himself
2) His wife
3) His kid
4) His dog

Term Limits work just fine in other countries - but you bring it up here and both parties howl up a storm - almost as loud as when you propose they give up taxpayer funded congressional medical care in exchange for Obamacare

The Constitutions, both state & federal, provide for term limits, every election.
Can't blame the tool when the user is too stupid to use it properly.
Some 80% of voters want term limits, all they have to do is vote against the incumbent, regardless of person or party, & vote for their major party opponent.
Do this for 3 election cycles (6yrs) & every office holder will be recycled. Do it twice & in 6 elections the voters will take back the power of the vote.
The DNC/RNC are two private corporations representing only themselves, in the business of selecting constituents for representatives.
The exact opposite of the intended process.

Actually it's one private corporation with 2 different divisions.
