There are no serious injuries among members of Congress or their staff," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.

The Republican members of Congress were going to a retreat at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The Republican retreat was scheduled to start Wednesday and end Friday. Vice President Mike Pence, who was not on the train, was scheduled to speak Wednesday. President Trump is scheduled to address the group Thursday.

The possibility of more carnage via train wrecking greatly outweighs using a rifle on a softball field.

Why does antifa hate us so?

Huh, a GOP trainwreck, and a blue-collar guy is killed while the lawmakers emerge unscathed.

I mean, what are the chances?

That's one way to get SOTU out of the top of the news.

But on Wednesday, following a collision between a dump truck and a chartered Amtrak train that left one dead and one person seriously injured, the site again became a conduit for the spread of hyper-partisan news and conspiracy theories.

Facebook's Trending News section consists of news stories and videos about an event along with a "People Are Saying" module, which features posts from other users. In the immediate aftermath of Wednesday's crash, which involved dozens of Republican lawmakers on their way to an annual retreat, the "People Are Saying" section became populated with a mix of posts discussing the news with no editorial bent, and groundless conspiracy theories, as the Daily Beast's Ben Collins noted. "Obviously, the real reason was that the capitol police were afraid this was a set up for a small arms and explosives attack upon Republican Congressmen and their families by either rabid, Commie-Lib-Dem ‘resisters,' or Muslim Jihads," one Facebook user posited. Others wondered whether Hillary Clinton was somehow behind the attack, or if it was an inside job. Worse, users who weren't logged into Facebook and searched for information on its site were shown only the "People Are Saying" section. YouTube wasn't much better -- top results on the site included videos from noted conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, Fox News, conspiracy vloggers, and, further down, a handful of local news affiliates. (Facebook did not immediately respond to a request for comment.)

Train carrying GOP lawmakers hits truck in Virginia:...Confusion ensues as rescuers can't decide which side of the tracks to bury survivors.

How unusual for a truck to be at a railroad crossing where a road that trucks drive on crosses the railroad. It can only be a planned attack. After all vehicles never get hit at crossings because of innatentive drivers. It can only happen intentionally.

Trains hit vehicles at crossings about 6,000 times a year in America. Those numbers are significantly lower than they were 20 years ago due to improved crossings in many high traffic areas.

the main problem is people just don't understand the basic physics behind trying to stop a train even when it is travelling relatively slowly. They underestimate the speed of trains and expect them to stop quickly.
