Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, January 30, 2018

In April 2016, a 13-year-old boy was shot by officers of the Baltimore Police Department. The boy ran when faced with the police, so they gave chase. During the chase, the police spotted the boy holding a gun, and when he turned, they shot the teenager. The youngster wasn't critically injured, and it seemed like an open-and-shut case of a justifiable use of force. Now people are wondering. The Baltimore Police Department is currently in court over one of the biggest scandals in the history of American law enforcement. The corruption case is replete with intrigue as police reveal secrets that sound like something out of an urban-fiction novel or a lost season of The Wire. It has revealed how one of America's largest cities just happened to be filled with crooked cops, but no one seems to be talking about it outside of Baltimore.

Check out the comments on the Baltimore Police Department's Facebook page. For example, on Jan. 17 the BPD posted about an upcoming chairty event: "Support the Baltimore Police Polar Bear Plunge Team to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Maryland." A reader left this comment: "Are there going to be toy guns there? I'm not coming if so ... "

Baltimore cops are corrupt? How did I not know this?!

This is nothing new. Years ago I was in a reserve unit with some cops. They bragged about getting throwdown weapons by walking in to a bar in uniform, asking some questions, then going back to the men's room. They would often find a handgun that had been ditched by someone who wasn't supposed to have one. That found a home in their car for use when needed. They also bragged about planting drugs on people they "knew" were guilty but hadn't been able to catch.

Which guy? I'm the person who posted 3 hour interviews of a former Baltimore PD officer that detailed their corrupt and institutional racism. Nobody cared at the time. This is the same department that had officers in the Eastern districts caught selling millions of dollars in seized drugs and guns back onto the street. Why am I supposed to be surprised some plant guns?

And nothing will change.

Are we supposed to pretend these practices are limited to Baltimore? Happens everywhere and everyone knows it. Baltimore has a high percentage of black people so lilly white folks just don't care. Wait til it happens to you in your own city, then you'll care.

Wow, massive corruption in a city that has been solely run by Democrats for decades. I'm SHOCKED

Yeah, JamesgIdiot, it's limited to only Democratically run cities. Folks like you are the most easily fooled by Republicans because of your _________________________________(fill in the blank.)

Democrats cared. Which is why under the Obama administration the DOJ was attempting to fix broken police departments.

But Conservatives elected Trump and he shut that down immediately. So places like Baltimore will continue across the country.

So don't give me this "Nobody cared at the time" garbage.

I know how the thread went. Democrats don't care. They pretend they care, but elect the same people chasing the same stat based policing over, and over, and over.

#13 - You mean voters don't care. Let's try to take some responsibility here.

These are very different issues you're bringing up: 1. being tough on crime 2. being corrupt on crime.

They're not different, they go hand in hand.

Make sure to get worked up in a lather when a black guy kneels during the anthem. This is why they are kneeling.

First, I don't think you know what stat based policing is versus corruption.

Second, Ferguson was a good example of a place being cleaned up by Democrats that was not stat based. Thanks for stopping that Republicans.

Cops can only do their job if they violate civil rights and break the law generally?

Not a good outlook for your future tenure as police commissioner

Exluding suicide 7.6% of all firearm deaths in 2017 were killed by police (1,189/15,549)

So far in 2018 106 already (on pace for 1272)

By comparison In the UK the population is a bit over 1/5th of ours. Crime rates are very similar. In the UK police have killed 42 people SINCE 1976

Our trigger happy cops have killed that many in the last 13 DAYS and as long as they say they feared for their lives none of them face any real scrutiny.

There are more uniformed police in America (1.1 million) than there are secondary school teachers (1.05 million)

If you add uniformed security guards (another 1 million) they are the 7th most common profession in America

That's a lot.

Scroll up though, it only happens in liberal cities where liberal cops killed liberal people liberally.

this is a perfect example of the FACT that ALL COPS ARE BAD. try to say that the GOOD cops didn't know this crap was going on. cops are not your friend. the police are civilian military..they're here to keep order, as a revenue stream via ticketing and property seizure and to protect rich people and their property.
The FOP and the DEA are the civil and international equivalents of the mafia. I was in the crime biz for more than 50 years...but i want law and order too, i have a family. And as a white boy i can assure you that, yeah prison is hard..but it's a helluva' lot harder if you're not white. if the trump election and the opioid crisis and the health care crisis and the crisis in education and our infrastructure dilema points anything out it's that americans are un-informed, on purpose to an extent, self absorbed and live their lives in a state of denial.
