Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, January 30, 2018

Former U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown began a five-year sentence Monday at a minimum-security camp inside one of the country's largest federal prison complexes. Her 1992 freshman election ended more than a century when Florida didn't send any African Americans to Congress, and in the years that followed she was an outspoken advocate on civil rights and interests of disenfranchised. She remained in Congress until she lost reelection in 2016, a few months after she was indicted. The Jacksonville Democrat is still trying to avoid serving her full sentence in prison. Brown's challenge of her May conviction is pending in an Atlanta appeals court, but her request to remain free during the appeal was rejected last week.

One of her investigators said he didn't like her, so she should go free. Investigations and convictions should only stand if everyone one involved is family or close friend.

Following the logic of the right wing in a previous thread, she should have had a jury of all black female congresswomen

She and two cohorts took money earmarked for charity, stealing over $800,000.

Five years is chicken feed. I've long been an advocate of some kind of Public Trust Act, where those entrusted with the publics' good will---judges, heads of charities, retirement trustees, etc.---upon conviction of violating the public trust, be immediately sentenced to 3x the maximum time, and must serve it at a real jail, not a country club.

#3 I agree. I was shocked when the local news was reading activities available to her and others at 'the camp'. Adding insult to injury she is still collecting her pension while the appeal process is in progress.

So you think the GOP will nominate her for president?

#3 How foolish. She should have put a relative in a job at the charity and paid them the $800,000.

"So you think the GOP will nominate her for president?"

Nah. A lot more nefariousness to clear that bar. How many times has she gone bankrupt?

Maybe she can hang out with Monica Conyers.

If she stole all $800K that works out to $180K per year. Not bad money for some time in Club Fed.
