Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

There isn't a link. My great grandpa spent some time in the clink -- twice -- for it so I decided to give it a whirl. I've been doing it for a coupla years, and hot diggity damn, it's a lot of fun. I'd be willing to bet that ole great grandpa would love to have the rig I concocted to cook with. I made an SCR controller and I am cooking it with a 5500 watt heating element from a hot water heater. I can cook inside and I do it all year round. I've met a few people who got a permit to make "ethanol", I think that is foolish though. You're inviting trouble. I have no idea how you would explain it to someone who happened to show up and make sure you're doing the right thing. "Uh,,,,, yessir..... It makes my tractor run better if I oak it like that for 1 year or better,,,,, for rill...."

I've actually never had any of it, myself, aside from checking to make sure I wasn't about to poison anyone.

I've also never sold a drop of it.

I give plenty of it away, and my phone rings about it,,,,,,,

a lot.

All it takes is one government employee with a goal to meet.

Now that said, "bokabob". If you are distilling, you want one.

Fractionating columns are really easy to use.

I went to Balcone's Distillery last year for a private tour. Their pot still was enormous, about 5 stories tall. We ended up calculating about $75,000,000 (retail) in inventory aging in their warehouse. The industrial side of liquor is amazing.

Balcones Distillery

Hey, that's my neck of the woods. Never been to the distillery, though. Gotta admit, that part of Waco is downright depressing. There used to be a French café around the corner that had decent quiche.

I toured Jameson in 2012. They are definitely state of the art now but they still have a lot of the hammered copper vessels in the plant. An amazing tour. Also did the Guinness brewery the same week.

Cannabis Beer is now a competition category.

I don't understand this thread. What is being made? Why would it be illegal if you can be your own beer?

#14 | Posted by BruceBanner at 2018-01-30 12:49 PM | Reply

Ewww, wasting good herb with alcohol. I make my own canna coconut oil infusions.

Liquor is being distilled for human consumption. That requires a Federal Distilled Spirits Permit. Not cheap, nor easy. Homebrewing does not require a permit but has quantity limitations in place that varies state to state. That regulation exists to enforce the multi-tier distributorship racket that craft breweries have been battling for decades.

Donnerboy, I think growing your own herb would count.

The "ethanol" permit is free.

I'd rather have nothing than that.

That's a useless piece of paper. You can already own a still without a permit, and use it.

I don't particularly mind if you are a federal criminal and distill to drink. Civil disobedience can be a good thing.

#14 | POSTED BY BRUCEBANNER> For personal consumption it's only legal to make Beer and Wine, not hard liquor(whiskey, rum etc.) I think the amount you can make per household for your own personal consumption is 200 gal. a year on beer and wine.

And the thing about beer and wine, is that it can only spoil. So at worse it's only going to give you an upset stomach. However if you consume bad moonshine, you can die.

That bad shine was from the Fed's poisoning batches historically.

Everybody making shine knows to dump the first jar.

Yes.

Methanol will make you sick, unfortunately methanol also happens.

It's not even hard to tell what's bad, you can see it and smell it.

If you wouldn't drink it,,,, don't drink it.
