Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

When the police didn't respond after several minutes, Kaid said he hit redial and asked why. "The dispatcher said, ‘It's because you don't have the Green Light,' " Kaid said. "The customer was in here destroying the store, throwing everything off the shelves. He was here for almost an hour before he left. When the police finally came, they told us the Green Light locations get priority." Businesses pay between $4,000 and $6,000 to join Project Green Light, a program that allows police to monitor businesses' video surveillance feeds in real time. The cost covers installation of high-definition cameras and lighting. There also is a monthly fee of up to $150 for cloud-based video storage. In exchange, participating companies are given Priority 1 status on police dispatches -- but some business owners who don't participate feel they're being treated like secondary citizens.

I jumped the gun here.

Looks like the "emergency manager" has been gone for a little while.

I'd wager this whole bill for police protection came from round about the time he was appointed though.

I'd wager...

Or, you could do the leg work and find the answer for yourself.

The emergency manager had been gone two years.

Right.

I'm sure the guy Rick Snyder put in charge to run the city was a radical left winger.

Kevyn Orr is who Snyder appointed.

Here is his background:

en.wikipedia.org

You are probably not aware that an Emergency Manager doesn't run the city. The EM temporarily takes control of the city's finances.

This appointment resulted in a positive outcome for the city, and like I said, the city has come a long way over the past 10 years.

Silence,

Did you even read the article you linked?

City officials, police and business owners have touted the success of Project Green Light since its 2016 launch.

Hmmm...when was Kevyn Orr EM? Oh, that's right from 2013 - 2014.

So, you came across the Detroit News article, didn't read it and just assumed corruption (nothing corrupt about this program as far as I can tell). In the back of your mind you knew a GOP governor appointed an Emergency Manager to deal with Detroit's impending bankruptcy. You then not only assumed that the EM was some kind of dictator who took full control of the city - which isn't even remotely the case, and then tried to tie this EM to some falsely perceived corruption over a program that came live more than 2 years after Orr vacated the EM role.

Here's a towel so you can wipe that egg off your face.

I do thank you for creating this thread though. I wasn't aware of this program until I read the Detroit News article linked to this thread.
