MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The NFL has denied advertising space in the Super Bowl program for a veterans group that declined to alter language about standing for the national anthem. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed Tuesday that American Veterans, or AMVETS , submitted an advertisement last week to the third-party publisher of the game program with the message, "Please Stand." McCarthy said the league, which has editorial control over the content, asked AMVETS to consider other options for the message, such as "Please Honor our Veterans" or "Please Stand for our Veterans." The two organizations were unable to agree on language in time to meet production deadlines. McCarthy said a separate ad from the Veterans of Foreign Wars group with the words "We Stand for Veterans" was approved.

They rejected a don't kneel ad. Gee, I wonder why.

I'm not sure why they wouldn't take the money, no one is watching the NFL anymore anyway.

I read it here and all over social media for the last few months.

They did a great job with those CGI crowds at the games last weekend..

What does standing for the flag have to do with veterans? I'm almost 60 and I have never heard of the connection before this year.

The NFL still doesn't get it. They are still blaming the dropping ratings and attendance on everything except the kneelers. If it really were over saturation, cord cutting, etc why would NBA ratings (players are prohibited from kneeling) be skyrocketing?

I don't think they will finally get it until they see season ticket sales drop this off season. Unlike other sports where a lot of people buy their tickets close to game day, most people get their tickets well in advance.

Exactly

But American politics is so skewed toward dividing us, it was inevitable that douche-bag politicians would use patriotism and veterans as a wedge to divide everyday Americans over the issue of police unjustly killing black citizens.

The other day, Pence addressed the Israeli Knesset and was met by Palestinian protesters. Pence then said this ...

As the ushers finished clearing the MKs from the plenum, Pence continued his speech, saying he was "humbled to speak before such a vibrant democracy."

So Pence is humbled to be in a vibrant democracy allowing such protests, but heaven forbid if right here in America kneeling NFL players protest during the national anthem to highlight abusive police treatment of African-Americans.

I'm an American, and I want a vibrant democracy right here, in America. And it doesn't help when politicians like Trump and Pence can so easily divide us.

Why do so many white Americans always fall for the old okey-doke????

Pence wasted tax dollars to make a spectacle of the issue at a Colts game. If Trump truly cared about the military he would pay them a visit in combat zones like W and Obama did. He's just a big ----- using them for votes.
