Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, January 21, 2018

If you call the White House comment line right now, (202-456-1111) you will hear an unprecedented politically charged message blaming Democrats for the government shutdown. You're not the only one doing it so it might take a few tries to get through. If you don't get passed the busy signal (for you young folks it could be the first busy signal you've ever heard) the message is below.

"Thank you for calling the White House. Unfortunately, we cannot answer your call today because Congressional Democrats are holding government funding, including funding for our troops and other national security priorities, hostage to an unrelated immigration debate. Due to this obstruction, the government is shut down. In the meantime, you can leave a comment for the president at www.whitehouse.gov/contact. We look forward to taking your calls as soon as the government reopens."

On 20 January 2018, amid the hue and cry of a federal government shutdown taking effect thanks to failure on Congress to reach a bipartisan deal on a short-term spending bill, the two sides passed blame back and forth over the Senate floor like a hot potato.

Fox News reported that the sticking point for Democrats was the March 2018 expiration of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which allows a measure of respite for young people who were born outside the United States and were brought to the country as children and who, in many cases, have spent years maneuvering a backlogged immigration system in order to be able to apply for citizenship.

Rump's supporters will call all day and night, finding this message more exciting then phone sex with Tiffany and Ivanka. Meanwhile (Trump) is demonstrating that he actually cannot negotiate a deal. The description of Trump as being like Jello is accurate -- The Jello is between his ears...

We've got some sad, petty people in the White House.

Really??!! This just looks like Willie Horton crap to me. Instead of tweeting, making stupid commercials and creating phone messages how about doing your job and bringing people together with compromises.

Well, if we don't force our representatives to do their actual jobs this is what happens, and just so you know, trump didn't do this.

We pay them to keep the government running and here we are. Awful.

CRASSUS

"Well, if we don't force our representatives to do their actual jobs"

"WE" can't meet their price tag becaue "WE" don't have billions of dollars to pad their re-election coffers.

If "WE" expect a representative to be honor bound to America's best interests, "WE" are just blowing smoke up our own sphincter.

So "WE" don't have the clout to make them do anything between elections. The only time our representives think about "WE" is when they have to hit the campaign trail in their state or district to convince us that they're the greatest thing since sliced (white) bread and their opponent is a dirty low down dog who is "coming to get you."

It's the gutless "WE" who don't have any courage. And the legless lizards "WE" keep voting back into office are well aware of that.

Don't vote for the same people back in office, it is the only way congress will learn.

If you voted for any one of your representatives that was already holding office and running for another term you are part of the problem, don't blame others for this.

Morning Joe was rather interesting today, laying out exactly what's going on.

Trump, Miller, Kelly - all came out in favor of the shutdown, and they showed all of them saying it.
Trump says "I need X dollars for the wall!"
Schumer/Democrats said "You got it. We agree."
Trump says "NO! NO! NO!"
(Trump/Miller and Kelly gotta have that shutdown)...

So on to the CR to keep the Gov't open? Since that's not going to happen, McCaskill (Democrat from MO) puts for a bill to pay the military, since the Republicans are saying the Democrats won't pay our Troops.

McConnell kills it, won't let it be brought up in the Senate. It's the GOP that's preventing our Troops from being paid.

Pence announces to the Military that the Democrats won't pay the Troops, they'd rather let illegals in.

And yes, the GOP has had 140 days to fix CHIP since it expired, and preferred to use it as a political weapon.

And then this. Wow.

So it is crystal clear who's responsible for this shutdown. There's a clear trail.

PMSNBC Seriously?

#12 | Posted by sawdust at 2018-01-22 08:37 AM | Reply

No. It's actually MSNBC - Morning Joe.
The quotes, the clips, etc. they're not out of context.
You can look it all up yourself.
You don't need Morning Joe to do it for you.
But if you did watch, it was a landslide of evidence.

It was exactly what I'd seen playing out, and they simply captured it all and presented the timeline.

Personally I can just tolerate MJ on the best of days, but for events like this, they're usually good to watch, despite my own general aversion to the show.

MSNBC is what you watch to find out everything FOX leaves out of their reporting (which is considerable).

Republicans schemed to blame Democrats for cutting funding for the troops. But here is the truth, that only a Lawrence O'Donnell listener might notice:

Late Friday, when a compromise had not been reached, Clare McCaskell stood and demanded that the authorization for continuous funding of the Government, especially our troops, who she (falsely) claims are serving valiantly.

This forced Mitch McConnell to object to McCaskell's proposal, shutting down the Government including payments to the troops.

Then for the rest of the weekend Trump, Pence and the rest of the Republicans pretended that the Democrats had put our troops at risk when in fact McConnell was stunned by McCaskell's move and forced to shut the Government down himself.

O'Donnell's years of working inside Congress provides us unique insights into dirty DC politics.
