Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly told a caucus of Hispanic lawmakers on Wednesday that he has persuaded President Trump that building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border is unnecessary, signaling a possible reversal on the key campaign promise. Kelly, who was secretary of Homeland Security before taking over as chief of staff in July, said that candidate Trump had not been "fully informed" about the border situation when he pledged repeatedly on the campaign trail to build the 2,200-mile wall and get Mexico to pay for it.

The president reportedly signaled his new stance on the wall during a meeting with lawmakers earlier this month. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal last week, the president said "the wall's never meant to be 2,100 miles long ... you don't need a wall where you have a natural barrier that's far greater than any wall you could build.

I don't believe Trump will give up on his stupid wall, his base would go nuts if he did, but hey, they already are nuts so what the hell?

The Wall is the Wall, it has never changed or evolved from the first day I conceived of it. Parts will be, of necessity, see through and it was never intended to be built in areas where there is natural protection such as mountains, wastelands or tough rivers or water.....

....The Wall will be paid for, directly or indirectly, or through longer term reimbursement, by Mexico, which has a ridiculous $71 billion dollar trade surplus with the U.S. The $20 billion dollar Wall is "peanuts" compared to what Mexico makes from the U.S. NAFTA is a bad joke!

I hope this is true. It is unnecessary. The sooner Trump recognizes this the better.

FOX NEWS:

President Trump tweeted early Thursday that his border wall "has never changed or evolved," following White House Chief of Staff John Kelly's suggestion the president's attitude toward his paramount campaign promise had "changed."

You can never believe anything that comes out of Trump. Not too long ago he told the President of Mexico that the campaign promise of a "wall" was just vote-bait to keep his base riled up. Also, that the "wall" was the least important thing on his agenda and that he thought that by 2020 his base would forgive him. A transcript of the whole conversation is on-line.

Trump lies about everything, then lies about the lies, and throws a fit if someone tries to call him on his BS:

Brian Stelter‏ @brianstelter

Lindsey Graham can't confirm that Trump said "-------- countries." @DanaBashCNN: "Why can't you?" Graham: "Because I want to make sure that I can keep talking to the president."

You obviously didn't read the fine print.

He said "we are going to build a wall and Mexico will pay for it."

(And if they don't and if the Democrats don't give us taxpayer money to pay for it then we will just shutdown the government. That will show those Mexicans and their S***hole country!)

Trump keeps them all scurrying after his latest tweets, trying as best they can clean up after him:

This narcissistic, immature, vengeful whack job is our president, the guy who hold our nation's future in his tiny, greedy hands:

Manu Raju‏ @mkraju

Lindsey Graham tells @DanaBashCNN that Trump only will listen to you if you're nice to him. "He can be as dark as charcoal and lilly white, it doesn't matter as long as you're nice to him. You can be the pope and criticize him, it doesn't matter, he'll go after the pope."

Facts and transcripts don't mean anything to Trumplings. Anyway, there's no conflict between what Kelly and Trump are saying. Trump could know the wall is useless and still want to add billions to the deficit to build it because it fires up his base. That's all that really matters.

Trump can have his wall IF he can get Mexico to pay for it. That should be the Democrats' response.
