Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Frank Bruni: There's no honor or wisdom in cozying up to Donald Trump -- just a heap of manure. Maybe more than any other figure on Capitol Hill, [Lindsay] Graham personifies his party's spastic, incoherent, humiliating response to Trump across time and its fatally misguided surrender. He denounced Trump before he befriended and defended him. He graduated from the unpleasant experience of being Trump's punching bag to the unprincipled one of being his enabler.

To reporters and colleagues, Graham has reasoned that he's positioning himself to push his own agenda and exert a positive sway. It's an argument in line with other Republican lawmakers' rationalizations that they're trying to wring the best from an unfortunate situation.

But it's reckless folly, because it doesn't take Trump's creeping authoritarianism, his instability, his degradation of the presidency and, yes, his racism into full account. To flatter him is to sanitize and encourage all of that.

Republicans tend to be Statists. It is not in their nature to confront those in power when they nominally are on the same team. Graham is just another pathetic example.

Graham is very much a statist anyway.

I actually thought Graham did a pretty good job of walking the GOP tightrope between insanity and honesty in yesterday's DHS hearing. If you missed it I think

it is still at this link: www.c-span.org

Get some popcorn ready as Corey Booker puts on quite a show as do several other Senators. Nielsen was a total embarrassment to our democracy which she is also sworn to defend. She choose instead to lie to defend Humpy Trumpy.

So Graham was against trump for the first part of the administration and then suddenly went on trump's team. Something changed.

My presumption is that Russia shared damaging info on Lindsey with trump and trump told him he had it. Suddenly he is a supporter...

I imagine this is true of many Republican elected officials.

I'd bet you didn't even listen to her embarrassing testimony in front the US Senators. Lazy! Low energy!

She couldn't even remember that Trump said "This should be a bill of love," Trump said. "Truly, it should be a bill of love and we can do that."

All of America heard that. But, she cannot remember? Sad!

And she simply refused to say what the president did say and would only say that "the President was using tough language, others in the room were also using tough language"

But, she just can't seem to remember suddenly what that "tough language" was.

Give me a break.

When you are in a meeting and your boss who happens to be the president and the commander in chief speaks and you can't remember what he said then what the hell are you even doing in the meeting? Weak!
