Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A Russian historian whose exposure of Soviet leader Josef Stalin's crimes angered state officials is due to begin enforced psychiatric testing this week amid fears he will be falsely declared insane, his lawyer said on Tuesday. ... Some of Russia's leading cultural figures say [Yuri] Dmitriev was framed because his focus on Stalin's crimes -- he found a mass grave with up to 9,000 bodies dating from the Soviet dictator's Great Terror in the 1930s -- jars with the latter-day Kremlin narrative that Russia must not be ashamed of its past.

The narrative has taken on added importance ahead of a March presidential election which polls show incumbent Vladimir Putin, who uses his country's World War II victory when Stalin was in charge to bolster national pride, is on track to win.

Putin asserted last year that what he called an "excessive demonization of Stalin" was being used to undermine Russia.

Dmitriev faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted of the charges, which he denies.

No wonder Trump is SO jealous of Putin's powers in Russia. Think of it.... he could have all the media other than Fox committed.

Weird comment from a guy who voted against the coronation of the little troll living in his head.

Little troll? If you are living inside my head, you need to be paying rent, Little Troll. Is that like your Indian name?

Your ilk elected a lying twitter troll to the highest office in the land... as if you give a ---- about your country.

"Responses like that make me wonder if you people really give a ---- about anything going on the world other than using it to bash the little troll who's living inside your heads."

Have you even heard of Trump's desire to change our libel laws because he doesn't think we should be able to openly criticize and make fun of him? Even after he, for years, tried to sell the lie that Obama wasn't born in the U.S. with zero proof. He wants the powers Putin has, it's quite obvious but unfortunately for Orange Hitler we still do have a Constitution.

"Have you even heard of Trump's desire to change our libel laws..."

In case he missed it.

"We are going to take a strong look at our country's libel laws so that when somebody says something that is false and defamatory about someone, that person will have meaningful recourse in our courts." --Trump

Apparently I'm not allowed to respond to my own thread, but whatever. Talking about strengthening libel laws, which would still require due process and review, is a far cry from apparently persecuting people for uncovering the truth about history. The trial has nothing to with libel claims.
