Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Senator Dianne Feinstein on Tuesday unilaterally released the transcript of a congressional interview with Glenn Simpson, whose research firm, Fusion GPS, was behind the dossier on alleged contacts between Donald Trump's campaign and the Russian government. The dossier -- compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele -- makes an allegation that there was a "conspiracy of cooperation" between Russian agents and the Trump campaign, and the president has frequently scorned it since its publication last January.

Feinstein, the ranking Democrat on the Senate judiciary committee, said she released the transcript because "the American people deserve the opportunity to see what he said and judge for themselves".

"The innuendo and misinformation circulating about the transcript are part of a deeply troubling effort to undermine the investigation into potential collusion and obstruction of justice," Feinstein said in a statement. "The only way to set the record straight is to make the transcript public."

Yep, it's real:

Feinstein releases transcript of interview with Fusion GPS co-founder

Feinstein's move came days after Grassley and Graham referred the author of the dossier to the Justice Department for a criminal investigation.

"The American people deserve the opportunity to see what he said and judge for themselves," Feinstein, the top Democrat on the judiciary committee, said in a statement about her decision to release the Simpson transcript.

"The innuendo and misinformation circulating about the transcript are part of a deeply troubling effort to undermine the investigation into potential collusion and obstruction of justice. The only way to set the record straight is to make the transcript public," she said.

According to Simpson, the FBI had a "voluntary source" inside of the Trump campaign communicating with them. This source was separate from the Steele's sources.

Bravo to Fusion GPS and of course to Sen. Feinstein for releasing this. This obliterates many of the GOP attacks on the FBI.

One supposes that some rwingers "think" that Diane should have done what Chuckie did; only release the parts that he wanted made pubic, not the entire transcript... as the people who testified wanted.

I posted this yesterday in another thread, but it's worth repeating:

Sen. Chris Coons, a Dem member of Judiciary, told me the release of the Fusion GPS transcript shows that the investigation has reached an impasse and that bipartisanship is effectively over in that panel.

It was indeed strange to see them attempt to be partisan at all.

The Republicans already released portions of it. Why do you even post this garbage?

Feinstein's move came days after Grassley and Graham had repeatedly lied about the testimony, findings and conclusions of this Senate subcommittee investigation. Has there ever been a Presidential campaign free of dirt digging? NO.

Trump is at risk for lying (nothing will happen here as long as Republicans hold a majority) or money laundering. But whether Deutsche Bank will come clean is doubtful. Mueller's investigation will need other sources and may already have them.

The reason for delaying release of documents such as this is so that there is time to check various records, and future documents from said organization to determine if their words were true and accurate. the information released may very well be the words of testimony of those involved with Fusion GPS BUT that does not necessitate they were accurate or true in the content value.

The claim of people dying has already been brought into question, as have a few of the other statements made by the Fusion GPS reps.

The reason these things are not immediately released is because foolish people believe the testimony to be automatically true simply because it took place before a congressional committee.

We already know Huma, Flynn, and others lied to the FBI in hearings. This was not well thought out by Diane and she will likely be punished for preempting protocol.

Also, she will likely face a lot of heat for claiming she did it, then claiming she didn't do it and was pressured to do it, then claiming she wasn't pressured a short time after that.

Can't even get her story straight...

I thought it was thought out REAL well. If the object of the Game is to piss off the Deplorables (which it obviously should be as it is high time we quit screwing around with these idiots).

I'd say it worked marvelously.

She's 84 years old and I bet she could give a crap how pissed you are. I bet she's tickled pink actually. I know I am.

Time to start riling up the hate mob chanting:

Love the logic of Trumpsters here. Guess you have to do some sort of mental gymnastics to overcome that cognitive dissonance.

Apparently, if a Republican (ie Grassley) releases anything, it is good and just. If a Democrat releases anything, then it must be violating national security, the process, and undermining the investigation.

She released the whole transcript because the Republican Trumpsters were already leaking selected portions of the testimony to try to undermine the investigation. They were trying to manipulate and confuse the public. She countered it by full transparency. And you are defending the manipulation and confusion. MAGA!!!

And if you think this damages national security or the investigation, then you only have Republicans to blame. If it was important to keep it secret... THEN THEY SHOULD HAVE KEPT ALL OF IT SECRET. By leaking select portions of it, they set it up so she had to do this to respond.

"The reason these things are not immediately released is because foolish people believe the testimony to be automatically true simply because it took place before a congressional committee. "

That's just a lie. The reason is because it embarrasses the President. If this were info embarrassing to Hillary Clinton it would be on billboards from coast to coast.

The administration already knew what was in the dossier, your lame reason for withholding it is ridiculous and pathetic. The truth about Trump is going to get out one way or another and you Trump sychophants can't do anything about it.

Yes, Grassley's selective releases are the reason she released the full transcripts. The Russiapublicans were trying to peddle a conspiracy theory and this transparency blows it out of the water. Grassley should resign, based on what is now known. Traitors.

If rightwingers want to keep this stuff secret then they should tell their leaders not to intentionally leak MISINFORMATION about what was said under oath. They can't have it both ways. They can't prohibit people from clarifying what they said and then also LIE about what these people said. That is a -------- games the GOP is trying to play.
