Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, December 29, 2017

Vegas Tenold, The Atlantic: I began reporting on the various malcontents of the American far right back in 2011, when nationalism and white supremacy were still on the fringes of the political landscape and the Tea Party, almost quaint in retrospect, was the face of white anger. During those early years, I spent countless weekends at Klan BBQs, neo-Nazi rallies, and lackluster conventions where attendance rarely exceeded a couple dozen people. The white supremacist scene was as tiny as it was delusional. ... Five years later, as candidate Donald Trump declined to denounce former Klansman David Duke and the Roman salutes of Richard Spencer's crew ... White voters in America were prepared to forgive even the most egregious appeals to white supremacy so long as a compelling candidate played on their racial grievances.

Brad Griffin, a popular blogger in the movement, told me that the defining moment of the past year hadn't been the election of Trump, but rather the punching of Spencer. It confirmed my suspicion that the sometimes violent reactions to hate speech were having the undesirable effect of growing the movement.

Interesting. They need to feel oppressed.

"Facts are lame," Spencer crooned at Auburn University in Alabama in April. "They're boring."

"The past year showed us how far the far right could go -- too far for most, even if they didn't really get anywhere at all."

What worries me is that they would find the leader they need to actually organize in substantial numbers. I do feel like their successes this year will embolden more in the future. Donald Trump is doing a great job of showing them how he used them and tossed them out until the next time he needs to command that kind of hate again. He got good enough at tapping into that baseline fear to do it without their help. The NFL protests were demonstration of that. He took a beloved sport and applied the politics of division to destroy it. It was an impressive flex. Then he forgot about it.

And the usa will insist on short memories for their 'others'.

The racist right is not going to take over America though we do need to replace the racist right wing members of the SC who are responsible for most of the ills of this nation today. That means we need a Democratic President and majority in the Senate, then we can fix America in a fairly short time. Nothing radical except that corporations will not longer be peoople (adios amigos) and money won't be freedom of speech. If we resolve those two things we can totally reinvent America back to the free nation our founders envisioned and I will guarantee you they would agree with both. Oh, and all y'all so superior independents who look down on us Democrats, rethink your idiotic ideas and get on board the train that is going to fix America.

Some of the posters here are delusional. Doesn't Obamacare cover anti-psychotics or are you trying to self-medicate with weed?

Some of the posters here hate it that some of the rest of us understand things and know how to defeat them for the good of the nation. Take your meds Visitor, you'll feel better in the morning. And, I can honestly say I take no meds and don't even smoke weed. I see things clearly and recognize opportunity for America that the racism of the Republican party is going to cause the rejection of that party.

A person having delusions is not in a position to know it.

Please let me save you from heartache and disappointment, there are no real racists on the SC and they are certainly not responsible for most of the ills of this nation. If Democrats controlled all branches of the government they would not fix most of the ills of America no matter how much time you gave them.

The solution to bad government is not more government.

When they legitimized corporate personhood and determined that money is the same as free speech they openly admitted that your argument is preposterous. Those two issues are the biggest problems our nation faces today and til they are reversed we will continue to watch our nation become more divided and the majority poorer. Defending them makes you look pathetic, like a dog begging for crumbs as the master dines on filet mignon.

Democrats are just as guilty of loving the money as Republicans.

If it were the case that you all "understand how to defeat them for the good of the nation", Donald Trump wouldn't be President.

"I can honestly say I take no meds and don't even smoke weed."

Well that explains a lot...
