Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, December 24, 2017

With the passage of the GOP tax bill this week, the Trump administration has scored 81 major achievements in its first year, making good on campaign promises to provide significant tax cuts, boost U.S. energy production, and restore respect to the United States, according to the White House.

And along the way, President Trump even outdid his own expectations and slashed at least 11 major legacy items of former President Barack Obama, including cracking down on the open border, slowing recognition of communist Cuba and effectively killing Obamacare by ending the mandate that everyone have health insurance or face a tax.

Great. One of the "major achievements" cited was pulling out of the TPP, one of the most idiotic things he's done.

Another: "Eliminated an Obama rule on streams that Trump felt unfairly targeted the coal industry."

So the bar for "major achievements" is clearly Trump's fee-fees. And polluting waterways is a #win.

No one's arguing with you that he got stuff done. We just don't see things as allowing coal companies to dump their sludge in rivers, or selling out National Monuments, or moving more income upwards as a good thing.

#4,

Ok, whatever. But there is the problem. We see a lot of things differently. No one is saying allowing coal companies to dump sludge. There are still laws against that and you know it. That statement by you is what making this environment toxic. Blatantly a lie.

Income flows to where work gets done. Income flows to where demand is. The majority of the taxes in this country are paid by the rich. You don't think sometimes they deserve a break?

"The majority of the taxes in this country are paid by the rich. You don't think sometimes they deserve a break?"

Not when we're running a massive deficit, and 100% of this would be borrowed just to give 80% to the wealthiest. Do you get that? We're not talking about a surplus, we're talking about borrowing $2 Trillion MORE than would would've, to give $1.6 Trillion to the richest 1%.

Again, back to math: do you believe borrowing $24K for your family of four to get $100 a month for 8 years is a good idea?

#8 | Posted by Danforth at 2017-12-24 11:01 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 2

"Income flows to where work gets done. "

But more income flows to where the work is opening dividend checks for a living, than to where work is mopping floors during a double shift. The same $30,000 of income will leave vastly different amounts after taxes.

Sorry Danforth,

I would have rather seen a change in the tax law where everyone would pay the same percentage of their income. No deductions. No refund crack. Everyone pays the same percentage.

Nor do I. I'm simply pointing out if you have to actually work for your income, you shouldn't have to pay twice the federal tax rate as someone who braves paper cuts on a quarterly basis.

But your answer begs the question: Do you consider "born rich" to be the equivalent of "successful"?

The majority of the taxes in this country are paid by the rich. You don't think sometimes they deserve a break?

This is hilarious. The rich don't "sometimes" get a break in America. They've been getting breaks forever. On taxes they are on a winning streak going all the way back to World War II.

The top tax bracket was taxed 70% in the 1940s. Today it's half that and the rich have so many loopholes that many of them can completely dodge their responsibility to pay taxes -- as Trump did for 20 years.

A lot of the ultra rich are so used to leeching off this society and giving nothing back that they regard it as stupid to pay taxes. They buy their way into tax heists like the one you've been hoodwinked into supporting. Trump openly bragged in debates about paying no taxes and you voted for him!

Here's what you voted for: A future in which you, your children and grandchildren pay for decades of debt because of Trump's tax bill.

Income?

Why not take a fixed percentage of wealth?

They do. They are almost the only ones paying the majority of taxes.

The poor have it too easy

There are a multitude of programs for the poor. Our poor are considered rich by third world standards. What we are headed to, is equal outcomes. The liberal/progressive poor see that those who work and are successful have things. They want them to. We cannot guarantee equal outcomes and that's what you liberals want. That stifles innovation. That stifles a work ethic.

That might have something to do with centuries of blacks being held down in this country, don't you think?

The first black student wasn't allowed to attend my university until the 1950s. North Texas isn't even a prestigious school (and it certainly wasn't back then). Do you think whites might have had less opportunity to achieve success in America if our grandparents were denied even an opportunity to attend an average college?

The fact is that the poverty rate among blacks fell from 87 percent in 1940 to 47 percent by 1960, that was until Democrats started the "War on Poverty".

They were improving their economic position in the US until Democrats decided they needed to have abortions on demand, no fault divorce, , lowered standards to get in to "projects". Even Gun control ....

What does this solve? Do you think this will make things better? How specifically? Also please define wealth.

Here's the rub, we can't seem to get around Hausers law. No matter the rate of taxation, no matter the economy. The government takes about ~18.5% regardless of the policies.

The real question is why can't the government just spend what it takes in? Until the government does this, I will take my taxcut every time, besides I will be spending it on a new boat, employing people. Too bad its a Swedish made Hallberg-Rassy. Too bad the "luxury" tax killed the US personal yacht manufacturing, in order to "stick it" to the rich, there's a booming industry the US just can't just participate in.

Since 2001 we as a country have taken taxpayer money and spent it on the following ...

• Two Bush Tax Cuts = $6.6 trillion (2001, 2003)
• Medicare Part D = $1 trillion (2003)
• Iraq War = $7 trillion (2003 - 2009)
• Wall Street Bank Bailout = $12.8 trillion (2008)
• Obama Stimulus = $1 trillion (2009)
• Trump/GOP Tax Cuts = $1.5 trillion (2017)

Almost $30 trillion, and we have yet to run out of money.

How about investing some of those trillions in things that would help working and middle-class Americans ... like infrastructure (jobs), education (jobs), and healthcare (jobs).

Not hard.

I got as far as consumer confidence rebound and stopped reading. Consumer confidence, like every other economic indicator I've seen, was rising and had already returned to pre-2008 levels. Trump hasn't done ----.

They don't believe money belongs to any one person. They think it belongs to the collective. It's stupidity like that, that's ruining our nation.

Nope. Childish stupidity like this drivel is what's ruining our nation.

That and Republicans being absolute scum.

I told Laura she didn't understand the bible and that's true.

I think it's pretty silly when somebody gets on their high horse about knowing the Bible better. What a person knows about the Bible is shaped by what they're taught and their personal relationship with the book and their faith. It isn't a trivia contest on who can recite facts or passages.

There also isn't an objective truth of what the Bible means. My dad's family was Baptist and my mom's Catholic. Do you think one side would ever think the other knew the Bible as well? Hell no.

Correct...so neither side should try to use the bible, when it comes to governing our country. The Constitution is the authority to be appealed to. This message goes to Boaz as well.

Funny how pfc. boazo quotes the Bible, while completely overlooking Exodus 20:14.

Not to mention Article 134 of the UCMJ.

And no, I don't care how it "affects" anyone. The country shouldn't care.

What type of mental disorder is this?

Lack of empathy? Inability to know what's good for you?

"What type of mental disorder is this? "

Tribalism.

The tax bill isn't good because it's good, it's good because it has an (R) after it, math be damned.

Here are 16 things Donald Trump said he would do on ‘day one' he never achieved in the entirety of 2017
