Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Matt Lewis, The Daily Beast: By now, you've seen the adoration heaped upon President Donald Trump by members of his team and congressional leaders on Wednesday. ... But nobody came close to reaching the level of obsequiousness that Vice President Mike Pence has mastered. Upon viewing the tape, the most common response, once the gag reflex was suppressed, was to say "get a room!" Seriously, it was so bad that Seth Meyers mocked it by comparing it to the scene from the movie Love Actually, where a would-be suitor shows up at a door with cue cards reading, "To me, you are perfect." This wasn't an exaggeration.

VP Pence is a good student. He has learned well from Pres Putin's tutelage how to manipulate Pres Trump via compliments.

The question, imho, is less about VP Pence's brown-nosing, and more about the reason why.

Is this even in question? The man wears his theopolitics on his sleeve in flashing neon letters. I want to start sending him Tillich's "Systematic Theology" in the mail volume by freaking volume... Maybe drum a little nuance into the man. At least he's a cat person.

I hope you are being sarcastic, otherwise this explains a lot about you...

It's called the Vice President's job description (with the exception of Cheney, who actually ran the show).

just another display of disgusting vile behavior by the trumptilian horde.

my revulsion at this administration could not be greater.

They are sincerely HAPPY that people will have less access to health care.

They sit there kissing trump's boiled ----.

Christ, if this happened when Obama was president you repukes' heads would explode.

"Why is Mike Pence Such an Obsequious Suck-Up?"

Pretty sure "obsequious suck-up" is in this man's job description.

Possibly verbatim.

Which, again, makes one wonder.

If entitlement/welfare reform is off the table for 2018, what is the GOP going after?

In our politics it's economics, social issues and others (ie foreign policy), with the first two accounting for about 90% of the discussion.

Since the first two are about all Congress can cover, I can't help but think that, in the absence of economic issues, social issues ("religious liberty" in particular) will be the primary focus.

It's the VP's job to be a brown nosing sycophant to a fake tanned man child?

You're Russian, aren't you?

Oh, and to answer the headline's question, I'd guess it's because his 'I drive a windowless, soundproofed van' look coupled with his over doing it, I can't eat lunch alone with a woman colleague religious views iced by his homely ass, perfect Midwestern wife he's likely a closeted, self-loathing gay man who's turned to a pursuit of power to soothe his restless, loin quivering soul.

Entitlement reform would be irrelevant to that, I think.

In fact, the support gained by a war might help to push it. But that would mean McConnel was lying, which isn't remotely outside the realm of possibilities.

War would distract from Mueller and allow for entitlement destruction easier.

Actually

President of the United States Senate. As President of the Senate, the vice president has two primary duties: to cast a vote in the event of a Senate deadlock and to preside over and certify the official vote count of the U.S. Electoral College.

Also

The vice president is a statutory member of the National Security Council under the National Security Act of 1947

The former governor or Indiana, who knew positively he could not get reelected, somehow ends up Vice President? Of course Trump is his hero, he saved his career. Pence is trying to operate now in a world different from where he was elected Governor. In this world religious nuts don't have a chance so he is trying to learn how to support Trump without looking like who he is, a religious nut. He calls his wife "Mother." Nuf said.

You're wrong. No vice president has ever sucked up this much. The veep can't be fired -- at most a president can pressure him to resign. This gives the veep the ability, unlike Cabinet officials, to be an independent voice at times.

Pence is doing none of that. He's acting like Waylon Smithers on The Simpsons. It is beneath the dignity of the office he holds for Pence to be such a servile flatterer. Pence acts like an official in North Korea desperate to stay on Dear Leader's good side because his life depends on it.

Yet, Pence can invoke the 25th Amendment, which is desperately needed, until you realize Pence is next in line and Ryan after that.

"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron." -- H. L. Mencke

Holy S#!t Batman! THAT DAY IS APON US.
