Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, December 23, 2017

David Axe, The Daily Beast: On the first day of 2017, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un announced that his regime was preparing to test an intercontinental ballistic missile. Donald Trump, then just weeks before assuming the presidency, promised he'd halt Kim's test. "It won't happen!" Trump tweeted. It did happen. Three times, in fact. Not only did Pyongyang repeatedly test long-range, nuclear-capable ballistic missiles in 2017, it also made significant progress arming its submarines with an atomic weapon. And the United States failed to stop anything. Trump escalated his rhetoric, even threatening to "totally destroy" North Korea. Meanwhile the Pentagon organized impressive naval war games off the North Korean coast and aerial exercises near the Demilitarized Zone. The U.S. Army consolidated its own forces in South Korea at a sprawling, new mega-base.

LOL so obviously these were already created, under Obama. It's hysterical how naive the left is. You'll do and say anything to cast blame. Of course Obama received any blame from you. Perhaps you missed that American life expectancy dropped 2 years. Thanks Obamacare!!

UNITED NATIONS -- The United Nations Security Council placed new sanctions on North Korea on Friday that significantly choke off fuel supplies and order North Koreans working overseas to return home, in what may prove the last test of whether any amount of economic pressure can force the isolated country to reverse course on its nuclear weapons program.

The sanctions, proposed by the United States and adopted by a vote of 15 to 0, were the third imposed this year in an escalating effort to force the North into negotiations. China and Russia joined in the vote, in a striking display of unity, but only after the Trump administration agreed to soften a couple of provisions.

Obviously. And donald said he would stop it. He didn't.

Perhaps sailing an aircraft carrier in the opposite direction sent the wrong message?

2 years? It's 2 months according to the link on the DR and it's largely due to opioid deaths.

Considering the opioid epidemic driving those deaths began in the 90s I think it's appropriate to remind you of something else you said, namely It's hysterical how naive the left is. You'll do and say anything to cast blame.

Ooops.

The notion of North Korea launching an unprovoked attack on the United States is utterly ridiculous on it face.

During the Korean War, the USA reduced North Korea to rubble forcing what remained of its civilian population to live through their winters in holes in the ground by dropping more bombs on NK than we ever dropped on Germany. But this was not enough military power to prevail, because China flooded the Korean peninsula with defense troops.

Since then North Korea has had one and only one demand. A written promise from the USA never to invade again. This the USA has steadfastly refused to provide, regardless which party Americans elect. Because we refuse to provide this North Korea continues to pursue their nuclear program because the USA does not threaten and never invades any country with nuclear weapons.

HOW STUPID IS THIS US POLICY? How many Americans have any clue who the principle instigator here is?

Trump certainly is a moron making this matter worse. But he is not responsible for the outrageous, immoral, threatening situation the USA has created.

" How many Americans have any clue who the principle instigator here is?"

The jury is still out on that one.

At one time, not long ago, we thought it was Kim Jong Un who was nuttier than a fruitcake. Then Trump entered the competition and now we're not so sure.

twinpac,

None of what I said changes the fact that the North Korean form of government is horrific. But it should be obvious threatening Kim Jong Un doesn't work. Signing a promise to not invade is so simple and decent only the military industrial complex is evil enough to oppose it. It costs almost nothing and therein lies the rub.

I knew you'd answer it yourself. You just needed the opportunity.

BTW, what I find obvious is the need for a giant monster shop vac on Capital Hill come November 2018. Then change the filter and do it again in November 2020.

That's something we CAN do something about.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE! (and all that stuff)

While that is true, there is some responsibility on N. Korea and CHINA!, who were determined to take all of Korea into their Communist paradise. That we fought along side of S. Koreans who fought determinedly and who finally won an armistice because the North could no longer exert their will over the South even with China's help and that the South became a prosperous democracy should not be forgotten. I'm just not on the hate-America team. We have done some good things in our history and helping S. Korea was one of them, I just feel sorry for the poor people trapped in Kim Jung Un's hell. I hope he dies, I hope the people get to realize freedom as the people of East Germany finally got to enjoy. His kind of domination is evil, he is evil. His family's domination of N. Korea is evil incarnate. Anything that could end it would be justified.

That said, I don't see the problem with promising not to invade them. If at some point in the future we discover that we "need" to invade them, we will, anyway.

14 yes NK proved that your hero, Jimmy Carter was completely wrong when he negotiated with them. It was worth a try anyway.

NK is china's step child and they are responsible for all their deeds.
