Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, December 20, 2017

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has issued a new open letter, signed by many other religious leaders, rejecting the legitimacy of transgender identities. Titled "Created Male and Female," the open letter asserts that gender and sex "cannot be separated," calling it a "false idea" that "goes against reason" and "deeply troubling" notion "that a man can be or become a woman or vice versa." The letter attempts to simultaneously show compassion to transgender people while simultaneously condemning them. "A person's discomfort with his or her sex, or the desire to be identified as the other sex, is a complicated reality that needs to be addressed with sensitivity and truth," the letter states. Trans people deserve "to be heard and treated with respect," and when they express "concerns" or discuss "wrestling with this challenge," religious leaders should respond "with compassion, mercy, and honesty" -- but not affirmation.

These guys still think they are relevant. That's funny! Thanks for posting this Laura, sometimes I forget why I walked away from the Catholic church and need reminding. Live your life happily and ignore those haters, and those bishops qualify as haters. They even come right out and say that they accept the persecution, ridicule and humiliation trans people endure, Jesus would have walked away from them, more like run away from them. I do hope that Pope Francis slaps them silly.

It took them a few centuries to admit that the earth was not the center or the universe. They'll come around.... eventually.

When you take your moral advice from pedophiles you get what you asked for.

My mother is one of 7 from a Catholic family. My wife is one of 9 from a Catholic family. Today none of those 16 attend Catholic church services.

It's amazing that the church has emptied out its pews in a matter of decades.

Actions like this one won't help.

"Reject your family" is where I draw the line between Church and Cult.

Galileo Affair
en.wikipedia.org

...In 1610, Galileo published his Sidereus Nuncius (Starry Messenger), describing the surprising observations that he had made with the new telescope, namely the phases of Venus and the Galilean moons of Jupiter. With these observations he promoted the heliocentric theory of Nicolaus Copernicus (published in De revolutionibus orbium coelestium in 1543). Galileo's initial discoveries were met with opposition within the Catholic Church, and in 1616 the Inquisition declared heliocentrism to be formally heretical. Heliocentric books were banned and Galileo was ordered to refrain from holding, teaching or defending heliocentric ideas. ...

St. Peter denied Jesus three times out of fear and weakness. Why do these bishops deny those in their midst?

So they believe a woman can be made from a man's disembodied rib, but child can't have some sexually jumbled organs?

I learned from the hospital literature prior to my wife giving birth that 1 in 2000 children are born with some ambiguity as to their sex. I ran the numbers for 8 billion people in the world and that is 4 MILLION people plus in my mind many multiples more of people who lean one way or another as to their gender who are not defined by this physical measure. Change my world view at that moment. Sex in a child is determined by a flood of hormones in one direction or another at 2-3 months of development. There is no difference between ANY young fetus at two months. We have to respect and fully support the millions of NORMAL infants/adults now in the world who are born on this imprecise M/F border. You are required to fully love and respect the person in front of you - not some image of some M/F construct in YOUR OWN MIND.

Read this the other day and thought of you, Rev.:

Never poison anything you might end up eating later on.

No one is "required" to love any child, if it is the act of meeting a requirement then it is by definition not love. I love my kids unconditionally, however they choose to present themselves and if they happened to be transgendered (forbidden word in Trump WH) then I will love them exactly the same as if they were "normal," as if "normal" is really any better than transgender. None of mine happened to be transgender or gay but they do have their own sets of problems which might cause some parents to decide they don't love them. That's their problem and I pity them.

Wow! Never thought I would have to defend the requirement that all human beings should be treated with love and respect. Your post sounds like some legal hair splitting worthy of Jesus favorite foils. Try looking at the spirit of what I said. I think it is clearly just a call to treat people well that already have a tough enough life. Are you not REQUIRED to respect the person in front of you or are just a hair splitter on REQUIRED.

I'm not shocked at this position taken by the church.

But.....I won't be towing this line. I haven't with homosexuality and I won't here either.

I still think I did the correct thing 30 years ago by giving up church for lent.

I gave up "Church" ages ago in favor of Common Sense.

Funny how the church never seems to be about the things that Jesus was about.

Catholics are rightfully worried that if parents bring their transgender kids to church, the priests molesting them will become very confused.

Not surprising.

Glad I haven't bothered attending one of these cult meetings for many years now.

This is why government must provide a social safety net and not leave it up to cults who are free to discriminate who is helped by their bigotry.

Priests: But what about the children?
USCCB: Oh, f*** the children!
Priests: You think we've got time?

#28 | Posted by cbob at 2017-12-21 07:30 PM | Reply

So a religion that makes up rules and changes edicts based on current events is trying to ignore people who have caused culture changes to current events. Catholicism has always been hypocritical to people.
