Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

An Amtrak passenger train derailed on a bridge over a major highway in Washington state on Monday morning, sending part of the train crashing down onto Interstate 5 and killing several passengers, authorities said. The derailment caused "multiple fatalities," Ed Troyer, a spokesman for the local sheriff's office, told reporters at the scene, though he did not offer a specific number. The train struck several cars on the highway, he added, causing injuries but no additional deaths.

FLASHBACK: ANTIFA ADMITS TRAIN TRACK SABOTAGE NEAR TACOMA

INFOWARS:
Editor's Note: This since-deleted article from It's Going Down, an Antifa affiliate, reveals how leftist activists planned on derailing freight trains near Tacoma, Washington, by pouring concrete on tracks.

Furthermore, according to the Gateway Pundit:

"Police have raided an Antifa encampment in Olympia, Washington, following a train being sabotaged by anti-fracking activists -- but the anarchists claiming credit for the act have vowed to continue until ‘every officer is down.'"

Over the past several weeks, dozens of Antifa activists have camped next to the train tracks to stop fracking supplies from leaving the Port of Olympia.

Nearly 30 masked activists confronted Union Pacific Railroad officers last Wednesday when they attempted to clear the camps from the railroad right-of-way.

Quoting the guy who told us Obama is a Reptilian isn't going to win any arguments.

1) There are no Antifa encampments

2) There is not even one confirmed death linked to Antifa

3) Antifa means antifascist. Any American who is not antifa is by definition pro-fascist.

4) Until and unless Antifa starts racking up a body count the false equivalence with your buddies the Nazis and the KKK are specious at best

I bet you're glad the republicans have prevented amtrak from getting the funding needed to do that.

The Transportation funding bill moved out of the house committee on a 31-20 vote monday and cuts DOT funding 3.7%

To put ATC in place would cost $9 Billion but congress refuses to allocate $1 more than minimal operations costs

A Republican president signed the law that mandated Amtrak use PTC. It was installed on this piece of track. It wasn't turned on yet.

LMAO @ Snippy., my gawd man you are dumber than a bag of hammers!

Snippy using failed comedian Bill Hicks alt-right propaganda site as an actual news source. There is a 100 times better chance that Bill Hicks aka Alex Jones himself sabotaged that train track than anyone else.
Using infowars as a source and believing it's -------- explains a lot Snippy.

You know what caused the derailment Snippy? Hint: Human error, it was speed.
The train was going 50 mph faster than it should have been.

Yeah Bush signed the bill sent to him by Nancy Pelosi.

It wasn't turned on because funding cuts made a project that should have been done in months still be only partially built 10 years later.

The Federal Railroad Admin has had a very large spending increase. They oversee Amtrak and control the grants to it. 2008 kicked off a trend which peaked in 2010, dipped slightly through 2012, and then climbed far past the 2010 peak to the highest levels it has ever been by 2017. Amtrak also received a $2.5 billion loan to replace the Acela fleet. Funding cuts won't happen until Republicans pass that ridiculous military-keynesian joke of a budget.

FRA is not AMTRAK.

Amtrak budget by year has been falling. Appropriations in millions:

2009 $1,490.0
2010 $1,565.0
2011 $1,483.7
2012 $1,418.0
2013 $1,344.0
2014 $1,390.0
2015 $1,390.0
2016 $1,385.0

Well, there's the problem...

Trump likes trains that can go 100 mph over the speed limit!

You left off the part where Obama signed the mighty 3 year extension into law. Amtrak has had ample time. The number of fast-enough trains is very limited compared to the total train set, carry the bulk of the commuter traffic, and do that on a relatively small stretch of rail. This is a typical cascade failure. Failed leadership, failed management, failed labor. Only a couple people died at least.

Amtrak budget by year

#16 | POSTED BY HATTER5183 AT 2017-12-19 05:41 PM | REPLY

Not the complete picture. DOT just gave Amtrak $2.5 billion last year, specifically for 28 new Acela trains and infrastructure upgrades to the NE to support them. They have $200 million profit in revenue in the NE routes, state by state agreements to provide funding, city agreements for more funding, and benefit considerably from FRA and freight rail industry spending through shared track.

They take a $500 million loss annually on a dozen routes. If those go away, it becomes a functional, profitable endeavor.

I don't worship the hegemony, but I can see how it has enriched America.
What's your problem with the hegemony, exactly?
