Jamie Stewart voted for Donald Trump, but she thinks the president is a "jackass." She doesn't really love to talk about what he's doing or why she voted for him. "They should take his phone away from him," she says. "He posts stupid --- all the time." In a series of interviews that stretched over a year, Stewart was ambivalent when pressed about the president's accomplishments or any promises he might have kept. "I don't really pay attention," she says. "I don't have time to give a ---."

Stewart says she doesn't know anyone with health insurance. She used to get hers through Walmart, before her hours were cut. Now she is covered under her son's disability -- "I guess it's pretty much through welfare is what it is," she says.

These types of pieces fascinate me. Makes me know what a bubble my world is.

It's also frustrating, however, as they also tend to reveal an electorate who is angry but at best indifferent and at worst proudly ignorant of who and what they're voting for.

For many of them not voting would be the better option as they seem to be shooting themselves in the foot more often than not.

Per the article...

Stewart has little patience for those she sees as "mooching off the government," even though she used to get food stamps.

"If you're getting $500, $600 in food stamps, and you're just lying around lazy, soaking up the food stamps, not doing a damn thing for 'em, I don't think that's right," she says.

Stewart mostly blames the poverty rampant around her on people's "laziness," even as she's keenly aware that the odds are stacked against her neighbors.

"I think there's just a lot of lazy ass kids in this generation that they don't want to work," she said.

"I think they should be made to get a job. If you don't get a job, you'll be fined. If there is nothing wrong with you physically from getting a job, I think that there should be some kind of consequences to it."

She seems more willing to give the president the benefit of the doubt.

We're by far the richest country in the world yet we argue over food stamps while giving trillions of dollars to corporations already making record profits -- that's the problem, and it affects all working Americans in all 50 states.

If all the money from two enormous Bush Tax Cuts and now Trump's Tax Cuts all flows to already rich individuals and their rich corporations ... then there's not enough money left over for the rest of us.

Infrastructure spening means jobs ... education spending to rebuild schools and hire more teachers means jobs (and better education for our children) ... more spending on healthcare means jobs and taking care of our parents and grandparents.

Liberals and Democrats need to come up with a straightforward message that speaks to these people.

Truth just doesn't seem to invigorate the mob as much as Truthiness does.

Liberals just don't have the bestest mob chants anymore.

Repeal and Replace!

Ban Muslims!

Drain the Swamp!

Because liberals have allowed the extremist branch of the evangelicals to capture the God narrative. This same branch is uneducated, poor and most likely to stay that way. They don't have as much time for 'forgiveness, compassion' and 'we are all god's children'-type crap as they do for 'it'll be a miracle if i can pay my electric bill'.

Think about it this way. If your 3-year old child was misbehaving, you wouldn't go to them and say, 'well, ya know, in the book of knowledge, it says that a reprobate child who eschews the rule of blah blah blah'. No, you go to them, and speak on their childish level, 'Jesus is watching you'.

I totally agree. Here's the thing... You can't get through to people like this. I mean this woman is such a hypocrite it isn't even funny and I know a 100 more like her.

- She likely is a net tax taker - i.e. when she files taxes she gets more back than she puts in.
- She is on welfare - like it or not she is one of the people she is bitzin about.
- She has no compassion or understanding - even though she is in a pickle herself.
- Her son is so bad off he get's disability and she benefits as a result.
- Blasting young people without a job when she can't even get a full time job?

The utter cluelessness. She just doesn't seem to get it all. There isn't anyone "mooching" off the system and living the high-life. People like her by default suffer more under Republican leadership today period. Republicans mock people like her to rooms full of donors. Hell that whole region has defined poor for generations. Then to say she feels like he is fulfilling what he said he would do? Hello... Yes he is - what he said he would do for the rich when chumming around with them.

its not just in trump country.

i knew this guy i was friends in highschool with.

he started doing drugs and steroids in his 20s and we drifted way apart.

he got his "wife" pregnant three times... never ACTUALLY married her so he could get the government subsidies for a single mom

then started railing on his welfare neighbor during the trump election.

When i called him out on this he called me arrogant. Naw son, you hypocrite filth.

Well, at least their taxes will go up and healthcare costs will soar because of Trump. So there is that....

"Stewart voted for Obama in 2008 and thinks he "wasn't a horrible president." She didn't like Obamacare, but she loved Obama's relationship with first lady Michelle. "They love each other and you don't see that much." She doesn't remember whether she voted in 2012."

56% reduction in the number of uninsured thanks to Obamacare!

I know a number of people that are Religious Right Caucasian Trump/Republican voter types who are married with one of them working a low paying job while they keep popping out kids and collecting government benefits like food stamps and anything else they are eligible for. They WORK the system. Then you talk to them and they bitch about other people doing the same thing. Call them lazy and irresponsible. And just who are those other people? They are talking about the minorities around here. You call them out on it and they just get pissed. Talk about "single mom's and deadbeat dads". Then you point out to them they sort of fit that deadbeat dad bill because they aren't providing for their family - I am... Want to see sparks fly? Been called every name in the book for that argument with them.

Lower income folks instinctively understand that the open border policy of the Democrats puts them at a disadvantage in the competition for low skill jobs.

Yet those same folks are too stupid to know that tax cuts for the rich are financed by the poor and working class?

While there's some truth to that, there's WAY MORE truth to understanding that if the country took the following money ...

• Two Bush Tax Cuts = $6.6 trillion
• Iraq War = $7 trillion
• Wall Street Bailout = $12.8 trillion
• Trump/GOP Tax Cuts = $1.5 trillion

And plowed even some of that into infrastructure, education, and healthcare -- all which create jobs, with obvious added benefits -- lower income Americans would have plenty of jobs, smarter children, and access to healthcare.

But as a recent poll told us, our elected douchebag leaders combined with cable news scares these same lower income Americans into believing that people of color and immigrants are taking their jobs and mooching off the government.

So, you and everyone else can stop with the lazy demagoguing.

Bingo. Logic gets you nowhere in politics, especially in these cynical days when too many people retreat to informational comfort zones (social media, Fox, talk radio) when confronted by opposing points of view.

I hate to say it, but the Dems have to learn how to boil complex issues down to simplistic slogans.

Some of the things my friends and neighbors say in support of Trump and the Republicans make my head hurt. I want to scream at them, but I value the conversation over coffee. As you may have guessed, I am the over-educated Liberal. Oddly, most of my friends with whom I share coffee are retired people with college degrees and even multiple degrees. Sometimes when we meet, and the arguing dies down for a bit, I'll say something clever just to throw gasoline and a lit match into the talking. I hate it when I do that. LOL!

"Liberals just don't have the bestest mob chants anymore."

Nailed it.

What many on the left don't seem to be able to understand is that the same white working class they want to appeal to is the same group of people that was carrying torches in Charlottesville.

Trump harnessed the trailer park vote in order to win. The progressive narrative which demands that the rich pay for the poor may have some appeal to these folks, but it's lost once they also begin demanding that gender be defined by the clothes one is wearing, or that a Muslim should be a key party leader.

IT's worth remembering that the National Socialists flipped the script by combining nationalism with socialism. If you want to capture the trailer park vote, that's how you do it.

What a crock of ----.

In places where immigration enforcement has dried up the availability of seasonal labor to harvest crops, the crops sit and rot in the fields as Americans will not take jobs that only provide three to four months of work per year and require the labor to move about the US to follow the jobs.

Meanwhile the prices of food will rise.

There is no border policy that will stop the competition for low skilled jobs by robots. The GOP tax scam just gave corporate america the ability to 100% write off any new robotic manufacturing equipment on the very first day it is purchased.
