Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, December 11, 2017

Suppose you were a clerk at a convenience store and the police arrested you there 62 times on one charge: trespassing. You read that right. Arrested multiple times for trespassing while at your place of employment. What's going on? Well, that's what Miami Gardens, Fla., store owner Alex Saleh is trying to figure out. One of the employees at his store, 207 Quickstop, Earl Sampson, has been stopped and questioned 258 times, searched more than 100 times and arrested and tossed in jail countless times, the Miami Herald reports.

According to Saleh, Sampson, other employees and even his customers have been repeatedly stopped and frisked by Miami Gardens police, sometimes as often as three times a day.

Most of them, the Herald reports, are like Sampson. In two words: poor and black.

Saleh couldn't take the constant harassment anymore and ended up installing 15 video cameras in his store -- not to protect himself from criminals, but from the police.

What these videos reveal is shocking, the Herald reports.

A pretty crunchy part of town, but one would think that after 62 times the po-po would start to recognize Mr. Sampson. I can think of only two ways this can continue to happen: (1) the cops are looking for shakedown money, or (2) there is so much turnover in the Miami Gardens Police Department that officers do not know this guy because they are fresh onto the force...

Crunchy part of town or not there is no excuse for this. None.

And people wonder why there are movements like BLM?

I agree, there appears to be something majorly wrong with the police acting in this manner.

I also admire Mr Sampson's dedication to working.

Sounds like a payday waiting for any civil rights lawyer willing to take the case.

I agree with you on Mr Sampson's dedication to his job. That really throws something in the face of people spouting off on the poor and less fortunate. I don't care what race you are - you aren't getting rich working at a convenience store. As well as Saleh recording and calling out the Police. I feel that actually takes guts given the police state we are in and proved by the Police stop...

"poor and black" sums it all up. In an R state that's enough reason to throw someone in jail for a long time. Look at the racial mix in our prisons.

The story is ridiculously frustrating to read, and troubling to think that it was happening.

However, I got stuck on the date of the article. Late 2013

The article is a bit dated: 2013.

But you wonder why people are kneeling at football games? This would be why.

And lets not forget the video over the weekend of the white kid who lost his life needlessly by cops intending to subjugate.

It's out of control.

Who did the police think they were protecting and serving? Surely the intake personnel at the jail remembered this guy after 2 or 3 visits ending in release but kept on saying nothing and "doing their jobs"
