Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Jonathan Chait: [Donald] Trump is preparing to shut down Robert Mueller's investigation of Russian intervention in the 2016 election. The administration and its allied media organs, especially those owned by Rupert Murdoch, have spent months floating a series of rationales, of varying degrees of implausibility, for why a deeply respected Republican law-enforcement veteran is disqualified to lead the inquiry ... Trump has publicly declared any investigation into his finances would constitute a red line, and that he reserves the option to fire Mueller if he investigates them. Earlier this month, it was reported that Mueller has subpoenaed records at Deutsche Bank, an institution favored both by Trump and the Russian spy network.

Mueller will bring the the AG of NY and charge Jared or Junion on state charges chich the President has no authority to pardon.

Would getting fired stop Mueller? I don't think so, he doesn't need money and he knows all the levers of the Justice system.
State DAs will press charges based on evidence found so far.

You're not the first to have that thought, probably including Mueller. There's a unique quirk in NY separate sovereign/double jeopardy law. It goes something like this; if you were at risk in a separate sovereign prosecution for something also chargeable under NY law then you can't be charged "again" in NY. The "risk" can be as simple as just mentioning the something is charging documents.

Kinda explains why the charges Mueller has brought so far have been so narrow and limited.

"You're not the first to have that thought, probably including Mueller. "

I'm well aware of that, quite a few pundits posted about it weeks ago, possible months ago.

Mueller is clearly putting Trump's Presidency at risk and a campaign has been launched by Republicans to discredit Mueller. Unlike the collusion with Russia story, which is not illegal per Se, Trump's own lies are a matter of public record and a problem for him. Money laundering is a daily illegal activity at most global Banks and most likely Trump has been directly involved, using wildly overpriced real estate to legitimize it. Sensing this FOX and many Republican players have been trashing Mueller. Panic is setting in at the White House. This interferes with the business of Trump, watching TV and playing golf.

FYI: MoveOn is planning for immediate protests if Trump fires Mueller:

Nobody is above the Law -- Mueller Firing Rapid Response

Donald Trump is publicly considering firing special counsel Robert Mueller, the person leading the Department of Justice investigation of possible illegal actions by Donald Trump and members of his presidential campaign, and the efforts to conceal those activities.

This would be a constitutional crisis for our country. It would demand an immediate and unequivocal response to show that we will not tolerate abuse of power from Donald Trump.

Our response in the minutes and hours following a power grab will dictate what happens next, and whether Congress -- the only body with the constitutional power and obligation to rein Trump in from his rampage -- will do anything to stand up to him.

That's why we're preparing to hold emergency "Nobody is Above the Law" rallies around the country in the event they are needed.

Use the map or search below by ZIP code to find an event near you, or create one if none exists.

Rallies will begin hours after news breaks of a Mueller firing:

If Mueller is fired BEFORE 2 P.M. local time -- > events will begin @ 5 P.M. local time

If Mueller is fired AFTER 2 P.M. local time -- > events will begin @ noon local time the following day

This is the general plan -- please confirm details on your event page, as individual hosts may tailor their events to their local plan.

This is our moment to stand up to protect our democracy. Let's mobilize to show that we won't let Donald Trump become the authoritarian that he aspires to be. The law applies to all of us, and it's essential that it also applies to the most powerful people in our country.

Use the search tool to find an event near you, or create one if none exists.

I think Mueller early on let the Trump know his kid in law and kids will be brought up on state charges that he can't pardon if fired or interfered with.
Trump is at Mueller's mercy, and Mueller has that "nuclear option" of Trumps kids spending their lives in state prison if messed with.

That's why Mueller hasn't been fired already.

You gonna believe your faulty memory or the FBI?

Hillary Clinton email controversy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In March 2015, it became publicly known that Hillary Clinton, during her tenure as United States Secretary of State, had used her family's private email server for official communications, rather than official State Department email accounts maintained on federal secure servers. Those official communications included over 100 emails which contained classified information at the time they were sent, as well as nearly 2,100 emails which were not marked classified but would retroactively be ranked as classified by the State Department.

The controversy unfolded against the backdrop of Clinton's 2016 presidential election campaign and hearings held by the United States House Select Committee on Benghazi. Some experts, officials, and members of Congress have contended that her use of private messaging system software and a private server violated State Department protocols and procedures, as well as federal laws and regulations governing recordkeeping. In response, Clinton has said that her use of personal email was in compliance with federal laws and State Department regulations, and that former secretaries of state had also maintained personal email accounts, though not their own private email servers.
