Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, December 08, 2017

Hundreds of ISIS fighters had just been chased out of a northern Syrian city and were fleeing through the desert in long convoys, presenting an easy target to U.S. A-10 "warthogs." But the orders to bomb the black-clad jihadists never came, and the terrorists melted into their caliphate -- living to fight another day.

Just over a year later, ISIS has been routed from Iraq and Syria with an ease and speed that's surprised even the men and women who carried out the mission. Experts say it's a prime example of a campaign promise kept. President Trump scrapped his predecessor's rules of engagement, which critics say hamstrung the military, and let battlefield decisions be made by the generals in the theater, and not bureaucrats in Washington.

Right wingers always tell themselves the military wasn't allowed to win when a Democrat was president and now they are. It's one of your foundational myths, like the idea that giving all the tax cuts to the rich will trickle down to the poor. Of course it's BS.

The progress made against ISIS began under Obama. We engaged terrorists actively and aggressively on his watch, which is why Bin Laden is dead.

That's why let the JV team get to the point of almost taking Iraq and Syria. Unleash the military, politicians don't know ----. Tell them what you want done and they'll do it. Do you tell your mechanic how to fix your car, no. Why tell your millitary how to fight.

If conservatives let government do its job, we wouldn't need to send the military to warzones we created.

Yep. And I'm going to question why anyone would prevent a fleeing enemy force from being intercepted by A-10's. just like I questioned why George W. Bush wouldn't order air strikes on all those trucks delivering Saddam's WMD into Syria.

If you looked into it, you'd find this answer from the military: "We have repeatedly mentioned the care that our partnered forces were taking to avoid civilian casualties and collateral damage, so the partnered forces on the ground did not engage the convoy."

ISIS was packing convoys with civilians. We didn't want to kill a bunch of civilians and hand a propaganda victory to ISIS.

Even under Trump the military is taking possible civilian casualties into account. He probably doesn't care, but the generals do.

I suggest the military grab their --------- hunker down and hold on.

It's gonna get exciting.

That's the problem. The people ISIS are killing, pack vehicles with innocents, they still MUST be stopped and the people blame the west? Instead of blaming ISIS who packed the vehicles with innocents, they blame us? That to me sounds like people who don't deserve being saved or freed.

Yes I tell the mechanic how to fix my car. I tell him exactly what I want done and since I understand mechanics I will know if the job is done right. The military answers to the civilian leadership. Not the other way around.

And Hey 👋 have you heard the news?

Osama Bin Ladin is STILL DEAD!
