Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, December 06, 2017

Los Angeles (CNN)A new wildfire closed Interstate 405 early Wednesday near Los Angeles' posh Bel Air area and prompted evacuations -- one in a series of blazes that have scorched more than 83,000 acres, burned scores of buildings and forced tens of thousands of people to flee over three days. Police shut down nine miles of I-405 -- one of the nation's busiest freeways -- after flames swept down the foothills toward the highway near Sepulveda Pass and the Getty Center arts complex as stunned motorists drove by shortly before 6 a.m. "It was dark until I saw a gigantic ball of orange," motorist Tiffany Lynette Anderson wrote on Instagram, where she posted a picture of fire raging beside the highway before it shut down. "On absolute fire. I'm grateful to be safe -- truly grateful."

Worst time ever to have a fire down there.

The Santa Ana's are gusting up to 70mph.

So grateful to live on the Lost Coast.

I live less about 2 miles west of this fire, if the fire jumps the 405 we are screwed. We are enrolled in Alert.LACounty.Gov and will get some advance warning if it gets worse.

We already have our bags packed and important documents in the fire-proof safe and I have reserved a room out of the fire zone in Santa Monica just in case. Our dogs are already at a friends in Santa Monica so they will be safe.

Keep your fingers crossed, the Santa Ana winds are going to pick up later today and increase through Thursday, this could make Napa look insignificant.

In some areas it is positively apocalyptic. Unless you are here, seeing it up close, it is impossible to really comprehend.

Thanks Hans, I have been through this before in Malibu, there is nothing you can do but keep everyone safe and hope for the best.

I can see the plume from my office window, there are 6 super scoopers dropping retardant (avoiding obvious snark here) on the fire zone and about the same number of helos in the air dropping water. It is still brown/black in the center which is not a good sign

Pretty impressive display by the Joint Command (LAFD, LAPD and CHP), hopefully it keeps everyone safe.

It's real but has nothing to do with this fire (these types of Santa Ana winds are not uncommon even in December), nice try at a deflection though.

Stay safe and keep a bag packed if you are in the wind pattern.

The Santa Anas are supposed to get worse by 4:30, so we shall see what happens.

No deflection at all, I WAS going to wish you lost all of your precious memories in the fire if you were a climate change denier, but I will resist the temptation.

I've lived in Florida for more than a half century and have experienced many hurricanes. At least with those there's some somewhat reliable forecasts ("Show us the cone!") and enough time to evacuate if you're in harm's way.

Would scare me to death facing what you're looking at, along with the uncertainty of earthquakes and tornadoes.

I think I'll stick with hurricanes... and hope for the best for you and yours, RoC.

#11 that was a really disgusting comment. The fires here in Ca. are not new due to climate change. Most of the native plants have adapted to fire, some need it to germinate. The problem is we live in fire areas and every time the winds pick up the fire bugs come out.But you keep on wishing the worst for your fellow DR posters and show what a low life you really are.

I have zero sympathy for people who deny what will be a global catastrophe. They have no sympathy for other people so I don't care about them. In fact, I hope they suffer the results of their decisions. Kind of like Trump voters regretting their choice. Karma is a bitch and I ain't apologetic for it.

Nearly 30 horses found burned to death by Creek fire in Sylmar

Horrible.

During Hurricane Andrew, more than 1000 horses died. Many of them ripped up by flying tin.

Not the fires specifically nor fire season.

But definitely the longevity and severity of the recent fire seasons.

And it's not even like it's a single variable, there are several.

First of all, as you said, citation needed.

Second, so long as they can find an anonymous nobody on a blog the left is equal to the right, which is represented by multiple TV preachers who reach thousands, if not millions, of people a day.

It's why they hate math and science. It exposes the scale of their ridiculousness and the scale of their outright absurdity and insanity.

CBS has fired a legal executive who took to social media Monday morning with harsh words for the victims of one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history.

Hayley Geftman-Gold, a VP and senior counsel in strategic transactions at CBS wrote on Facebook Monday just hours after a shooting in Las Vegas at a country-music festival left at least 58 dead and hundreds more injured, "If they wouldn't do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that Repugs will ever do the right thing. I'm actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans are often republican gun toters."

Here's another - a college professor:

I don't believe in instant Karma but this kind of feels like it for Texas. Hopefully this will help them realize the GOP doesn't care about them.

Then this brief exchange followed:

When someone pushed back at Storey's tweet, he replied: "Well, the good people there need to do more to stop the evil their state pushes. I'm only blaming those who support the GOP there."

The same person again pushed back at Storey and asked if he thought the same about Trump supporters in Florida, to which Storey replied: "Yep, those who voted for him here deserve it as well."

Let's see....a top level executive at a major media outlet and a college professor. Yeah, those are a couple of anonymous nobodies.

Without even doing a modicum of checking on your own, you completely dismissed it out of hand when a Google search of "Vegas shooting victims got what they deserved" immediately substantiates my claim. You're obviously too lazy to do a simple Google search and are so bigoted that you presume I'm a fricking moron because I disagree with much of your politics because disagreeing with you automatically makes me absurd and insane. I cannot believe what an arrogant and condescending ass you've been for the past few months. It's staggering.

That is NOT a "nobody" no matter how much you may wish her to be. She may be behind the scenes and off-camera, but she was clearly an important person to a major media company that absolutely needs to at least fake objectivity in order to maintain credibility.

But if you can use someone we never heard or cared about before, during, or since, you will.

You got me dead to rights on that one.

Why? Because it's wrong when either side does it.

But stop acting as if the few you could find pale in comparison to multiple evangelical "Christian" leaders doing the same over and over.

I cannot believe what an arrogant and condescending ass you've been for the past few months. It's staggering.

#24 | Posted by JeffJ

We've talked about this already.

I respond with a level of contempt that I feel appropriate for the level of ridiculousness the right has fallen to with Trump's election.

From this case where whataboutism reigns because you could find some "liberal" somewhere to supporting sexual predators for public office (while denouncing Dems for the same thing or engaging in more insipid whataboutisms) to Madbomber-like detachment from reality where without any sort of legal or reality based argument they insist their viewpoint is not only correct but must be implemented. (You should take a gander at that thread, it's truly a sight to behold).

The right has sunk to a patheticness I never thought possible, all for power and implementation of their failed, tired ideas at any cost.

It's sad that our country is being fundamentally changed for the worst by those who claim every chance they get how patriotic they are.

217 LAUSD schools, UCLA, Santa Monica College and CSUN are closed for the rest of the week, which should give you an idea of how bad the air quality is from the particulate matter that these fires are creating.

Pretty crazy stuff.
