Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, December 01, 2017

Michael Flynn will reportedly testify that President Trump instructed him to make contact with Russians during the 2016 presidential campaign, ABC News reported on Friday. "[Flynn] is prepared to testify ... against President Trump, against members of the Trump family, and others in the White House," Brian Ross reported. He added that Flynn's testimony, as such, would "contradict all that President Trump has said up to this moment." Flynn, Trump's former national-security adviser, pleaded guilty Friday to charges that he misled the FBI during a January 2017 interview.

... Michael Flynn will reportedly testify that President Trump instructed him to make contact with Russians during the 2016 presidential campaign, ...

If true, this would explain so much of Pres Trump's behavior towards Mr Flynn, e.g., repeatedly calling him a good guy and wanting him back in the administration.

Some more info seems to be coming out...

Flynn pleads guilty to lying to FBI about Russia contacts
www.washingtonpost.com

...Prosecutor Brandon L. Van Grack said in court that "a very senior member of the transition team directed" Flynn to contact the Russian ambassador at one point. At another, Flynn "called a senior official of the Trump team at Mar-a-Lago" to discuss a United Nations resolution that Flynn talked about with Kislyak. ...

Flynn admitted making false statements to the FBI about asking the ambassador in late December to "refrain from escalating the situation in response to sanctions that the United States had imposed on Russia that same day." Flynn also told authorities he did not recall the ambassador "subsequently telling him that Russia has chosen to moderate its response to those sanctions as a result of his request," according to a court filing. That would suggest there was a second, previously unknown contact between Flynn and Kislyak....

Good question. In most situations it sure would be. There might be a claim that national security is at stake in this one. I don't know enough about the law to know how that standard is set.

NBC Politics‏ @NBCPolitics

Source close to President Trump tells @NBCNews the developments regarding Flynn today are "very very very bad."

The concern is Flynn will offer up information that could be harmful to the president.

The White House has consistently said Flynn doesn't have any such information.

Scuttlebutt is that Kushner is the high ranking admin official that ordered him to make Russian contact on behalf of the campaign. Gropenfuhrer won't pardon Kushner so that he's got a free shot at Ivanka.

Some interesting analysis and commentary:

9 legal experts on what Flynn's plea deal means for Trump
www.vox.com

...Lisa Kern Griffin, law professor, Duke University

The nature of the charges against Michael Flynn and his guilty plea confirm that he is cooperating with the Mueller investigation. To receive a cooperation deal of this sort, he needs to be providing information about higher-value targets than himself. We can only speculate about who those targets are, but news reports indicate that Flynn's testimony could implicate other members of the administration, including the president, in some coordination with the Russian government during the campaign.

That would fit the ordinary meaning of "collusion," but the term itself has no legal significance. What remains to be seen is whether those contacts rise to the level of a conspiracy to violate the campaign finance laws or some quid pro quo involving sanctions relief for Russia.

Christopher Slobogin, law professor, Vanderbilt University

If the government has agreed not to prosecute Flynn on the much more serious charges his alleged connections with Russia could have triggered, then it's probably getting something very significant in return. That something is probably evidence against someone higher up the food chain, and at this point, there aren't too many links left in that chain....

Well obviously Mueller and company had something concrete on Flynn beyond lying to the FBI and failing to register as a foreign agent. Flynn's statement was total douche baggery. This man in particular should have known he was breaking the law and been very aware that his actions could be considered treasonous. You don't hit general without being a political creature. Despite his service to this country I despise this man. How are we to know he hasn't sold out secrets of our military?
