Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, November 30, 2017

The White House has developed a plan to force out Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson, whose relationship with President Trump has been strained, and replace him with Mike Pompeo, the C.I.A. director, perhaps within the next several weeks, senior administration officials said on Thursday. Pompeo would be replaced at the C.I.A. by Senator Tom Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas who has been a key ally of the president on national security matters, according to the White House plan. Cotton has signaled that he would accept the job if offered, said the officials, who insisted on anonymity to discuss sensitive deliberations before decisions are announced. It was not immediately clear whether Trump has given final approval to the plan, but he has been said to have soured on Tillerson and in general is ready to make a change at the State Department.

Firing Rex Tillerson requires written approval from Vladimir Putin, that is the reason for the delay.

FTA: Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, later issued a statement. "There are no personnel announcements at this time," she said. "Secretary Tillerson continues to lead the State Department and the entire cabinet is focused on completing this incredibly successful first year of President Trump's administration."

Oh, it's been incredible all right. Successful? Not so much. Kind of hard to argue that firing half your cabinet, failing to pass your pet healthcare bill and inflaming the world with daily insanity adds up to success.

I was going to say Sanders said this with a straight face, but I remembered that her face is crooked -- just like her boss.

White House Plotting Tillerson Ouster

Judging by his past pattern, trump fills every position with either a putin puppet, a wall street puppet, a polluter puppet, or a family member.

Get ready for Secretary of State Barron Trump, age 12.

I only have vague recollections of Tom Cotton but they seem to give me chills thinking about him as CIA director...

Republicans cried for decades how they want government to run more like a businesses.

Now the one competent businessman in the Trump administration is getting axed.

So are Republicans sad?

Good God, the incompetent, idiotic Cotton as CIA DIRECTOR?
But, why not? same qualifications and descriptors as POTUS and the rest of his Cabinet.

The primary qualification needed for a Trump cabinet position is to shut up and do as your told. That's the one thing Tom Cotton does very well.

Cotton is a real piece of work. In case anybody has forgotten, he was the author of that infamous letter to the Iranian Ayatollah, signed by 47 Republican senators, that attempted to sabotage Obama's International Iranian Nuclear Accords. It was an obvious act of sedition that was generally mocked by the U.S. and Iran alike. But Cotton wasn't acting alone. The letter was actually written by William Kristol, the liaison between AIPAC (an Israeli Lobbying group) and the U.S. Senate. Cotton was just their willing lackey which is another qualification that Trump admires in his cabinet choices.

Tom Cotton could be thought of as the political version of a social climber. His climb to the top has been fraught with poor judgments, setbacks and ill-conceived traitorous acts against the U.S. government. At one time he thought he was being groomed to be Jeb Bush's Vice President (again by William Kristol) when it was thought that Jeb was a shoe-in candidate for the presidency ~ which was also part and parcel of that disastrous attempt to sabotage the Iranian Nuclear Accords.

There's a lot more to Tom Cotton's less-than-illustrious career but suffice to say it's completely understandable why Trump would be drawn to him as a cabinet pick. They are brothers under the skin.

You don't last long in a Trump administration unless you're willing to help him overthrow the government. Trump is angry, petulant, unbalanced and retaliatory . . . with so many complexes that they defy clinical description.

I never understood why a man like Tillerson, the CEO of the biggest companies in the world, would tolerate a twinkie like Trump telling him (in so many words)to shut up and do as you're told. Where's the dignity?

Best of luck to him. This faux job as Secretary of State is beneath him.

#19 | Posted by Twinpac at 2017-12-01 08:30 AM | Reply

Right, because there's so much dignity in being the CEO of global warming!

Honestly as fossil fuels is one of Russia's few valuable assets I think Tillerson was the right man to help Putin launder his Russian mob money through State Department deals.

#20 | Posted by snoofy at 2017-12-01 02:43 PM | Reply

You have a point there SNOOFY. I know that Tillerson had his eye some profitable oil deals for the company he probably still holds stock in. But then there were those pesky sanctions that sort of got in the way. One might even suspect that he felt double-crossed by Trump for not lifting the sanctions. However, my point remains the same. Tillerson was once a powerful man in his own right in spite of what you might think about fossil fuels. (I happen to agree with you on that.) I never understood why he took Trump's guff like he was nothing but a common hired hand.

That's why I said "Where's the dignity?" He should have told Trump to take this job and stuff it.

Everybody connected to Trump seems to get burned in one way or the other.

It makes sense. Combine that with the strategic maritime routes Russia gains by melting the arctic and Putin's war on climate science makes a ton of sense.

SNIPER

Trump's not going to fire Tillerson. If anything, as a professional courtesy, Trump's going to give him an opportunity to resign. Maybe not immediately because that would be too obvious. Plus there's Mathis and Kelly to worry about. The Three Musketeers have joined forces. But never fear. Trump's giant brain is hard at work on the problem. He'll find a cowardly way to blame it on somebody else.

GONOLES

Wait for it. The wiring in Trump's brain is arcing at the moment over the shock of the news about Flynn. Remember, Tillerson called him a moron and Trump has a long memory (when it's convenient). The relationship with Tillerson has been on a downward trajectory ever since which can have only one result. It's inevitable.
