Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Nearly 60 years after the last of 23 nuclear explosions in its land, air and water, Bikini Atoll again looks like the idyllic Pacific paradise it was in 1946  --  a bracelet of sandy, palm-covered islets encircling an azure lagoon. But it doesn't take long to pick up on Bikini's enduring eeriness, says Stanford biology professor Stephen Palumbi, who visited the remote atoll for a 10-day research trip featured in Big Pacific, a documentary that aired this summer on PBS. ... "We found, much to our surprise, not just scattered corals, but very abundant, big healthy coral communities  --  corals larger than cars scattered about the edges of a hydrogen bomb crater," he says. ... "By understanding how corals could have recolonized the radiation-filled bomb craters, maybe we can discover something new about keeping DNA intact."

The Government constantly downplays the danger nuclear power, an important precursor to nuclear weapons of mass destruction, plays in all our lives. After Fukushima, tuna radiation levels in the Pacific have spiked and infant mortality spiked on the US West Coast. Thereafter, when the USS Ronald Reagan came to the aid of the Japanese the Japanese refused to permit it portage in Japan because it became too radioactive and troops aboard the vessel have been denied health claims associated with exposure to Fukushima radiation poisoning. So they have done with cancers downwind of Nevada test sites and Three Mile Island. Hanford is a poorly managed ticking time bomb. The Russians have rendered thousands of square miles of their country uninhabitable.

Kennedy and Khrushchev sought to reduce the weapons race and work towards a lasting peace but the military industrial complex in both countries have successfully resisted such progress for the human race in favor of paranoia and greed. The historical record is clear this was Kennedy's agenda before he was shot dead.

According to an article in the gentlemen's periodical Headlights and Caboose , a little-known fact is that the original meaning of T&A wasn't ----------, but Tritium and Alpha particles.

The other nuclear powers of the world are so much more responsible than the United States. America is like a child with his Dad's gun. Even North Korea conducts underground weapon systems tests. Trump should be impeached for such sins.

#7 Trump should be impeached for not having conducted any nuclear tests whatsoever? You're an idiot.. and obviously do not "know too much". Did you 'know' that the US conducted a crapload of underground nuclear tests, not one of which has happened under Trump?

On September 23, 1992, under the surface of the Nevada Test Site, the United States conducted its 1,030th--and last--nuclear weapon test explosion.
