Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The Pakistani government has called on the army to restore order in Islamabad and disperse anti-blasphemy protesters who have been demonstrating in the capital for the past fortnight. The protests, which spread on Saturday to several other cities in Pakistan, have left about 200 injured, including dozens of police officers. Local media reported that about 150 protesters in Islamabad had been arrested by police, who used water cannon, rubber bullets and tear gas. Seemingly emboldened by the failure of the government to clear the protests, which have nearly paralysed the capital, Khadim Hussain Rizvi -- the firebrand cleric who leads the Tehreek-e Labbaik Pakistan party -- has called for protesters to bring the whole country to a halt.

On Saturday, protesters also gathered in cities including Karachi, Lahore, Hyderabad and Faisalabad, blocking main roads and triggering traffic jams.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority ordered a media blackout. Social media platforms also appeared to be temporarily suspended.

The rallies were triggered by a change in the wording of an electoral oath for lawmakers, which protesters claim was done to appease religious minorities they consider heretics. Despite a swift reversal, protesters still demand that Pakistan's law minister resign.

Loser can't walk... is stuck to a wheelchair. Loser is also prepared for tear gas assault. Notice the wrap-around shades.

My mother has a cure for tear-gas assault.... when she was in school, getting hit by tear-gas for like breathing for her. That much gas caused possible genetic mutation and that is why I wuz born the way I am now.

Need to ask her what that cure was... something to do with onions if I remember correctly....

Pakistan calls on army

Army just told stupid Government to go f83k itself.

"Why should we be the bad guy? Clean up your own mess"

They will allow Rangers (Pak version of National Guards) to be deployed to protect certain areas from mob damage. That's all. However, those orders have not been sent yet.

There are two lessons we get from this event....

1. Tear gas is overrated.

2. Cops can't defend against wrist rockets.

Yeah PUNCHY... why should we care about all this? You created this thread... why?

It's not like we don't have problems/Orangutan/Dotard of our own to deal with.....

Because of the Army's refusal to fire on Pakistani citizens (even if those citizens happen to be religious filth, as in this case), the Guv lost it's last option.

Law Minister resigns as government gives in to protesters' demands

Zahid Hamid has tendered his resignation and is waiting for its approval by Prime Minister. The protestors got the scalp they wanted.

Ba-bye, Useless Man.

It's all over.

So there was no need for PUNCHY to create this thread as if WW3 was about to happen and there was no need for Mr.Changing-Goalposts to promote it to the Front Page as if WW3 did start.

Re #7

Carl Sagan saw all of this coming decades ago.

The full quote:

"I worry that, especially as the Millennium edges nearer, pseudoscience and superstition will seem year by year more tempting, the siren song of unreason more sonorous and attractive. Where have we heard it before? Whenever our ethnic or national prejudices are aroused, in times of scarcity, during challenges to national self-esteem or nerve, when we agonize about our diminished cosmic place and purpose, or when fanaticism is bubbling up around us - then, habits of thought familiar from ages past reach for the controls.

The candle flame gutters. Its little pool of light trembles. Darkness gathers. The demons begin to stir."

I wonder how big inevitable suicide bombing will be?

These were spoiled religious party followers against a spineless Guv..... No taliban anywhere. Why would there be any bombings? Besides, the hoohaa is done and over with. They got the resignation they wanted.

Domestic terrorism is more of an American problem these days under Trump. We can call it "insanity" when a white person shoots up or blows up the place, but it's terrorism all the same.

Canadians should be on the look out that this sickness doesn't spread north of the border.

it's terrorism when it is politically motivated. Some of the most prolific killers on earth did so not to make a statement, but because they really liked killing people.

War is politically motivated.
War is terrorism.

War is terrorism.

Wars started on lies sure are (Iraq). That makes all Americans who supported that war, terrorists. Specially those who like swallowing FOX NEWS's ----. Colin Powell, who knowingly lied in front of the UN (despite being a professional soldier... where I come from, soldiers never lie) and Dubya, have a special place in Hell reserved for them.

I define terrorism as an act that kills non-combatants for the purpose of getting attention or for any cause that does not include self-defense.

Las Vegas was terrorism. So was Columbine, for example.
