Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Traffic accidents -- including fatalities -- surged after the release of Pokemon Go, according to a new study. The research suggests that people driving while also trying to catch 'em all "gave rise to a disproportionate increase in vehicular crashes, injuries, and fatalities in the vicinity of PokéStops." Why it matters: The number of total auto accidents and the number of fatal accidents are both already increasing -- as are the number of accidents attributed to distracted driving, according to federal data. And the market for augmented-reality apps is only expected to keep growing.

Self driving cars will fix this. Just gonna be a few rough years until we get there.

This study methodology should be expanded across many counties though. That way Nintendo can better know where to put a Pokemon to kill off the undesirables.

Cars should have technology that disables cell phones when the engine is started. It isn't just Pokemon Go, it is a******s texting. I see them weaving in traffic every day. They are dangerous idiots who should lose their licenses and be prevented from endangering the rest of us.

And, for the record, I never text while driving and won't ride in a car with a driver who does.

If that is what it takes to prevent drivers from texting then that is what we need to do. I don't want one of my kids or grandkids killed by some a*****e texting. Texting makes drivers more dangerous than drinking does.

It's not just texting. It's any app use. There are apps that do this already, I even coded one awhile back. They haven't caught on.

practically, you're not getting people to give up their navigation and go back to reading maps while driving.

Let's ban cell phones .

Unfortunately, there is zero we can do. This is the price of FREEDOM.

"enforce the laws on the books." - #10 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2017-11-27 03:55 PM

The reality is that there is neither the manpower nor the willpower to "enforce (all) the laws on the books."

You know what else increases car crashes?

Speed. Speed kills, people.

Slow the ---- down.

"Slow the ---- down." - #12 | Posted by rstybeach11 at 2017-11-27 04:02 PM

My wife tells me that if I drive any slower I'll no longer need a drivers license, I'll need a parking permit instead.

"Enforce the laws on the books" is a thing people say when they don't actually want any changes.

So the laws already in place aren't enough? Why not?

#16 The Joke, INDIANAJONES, is Your Head

Now ... Why aren't the current laws good enough, that you feel the need to take more freedoms away and prefer to mandate more of what people can and can't do?

Because current laws allow people to drive around on their phones and kill other people? Sounds like an awesome reason to me.

Moron, the joke went over your head. I was using the same moronic excuse your fellow idiots give regarding gun control. Do you take pride in being so openly a fool?

Ya don't say...

Snoofy was right in #1. Going to be a rough few years. South Park did a funny, but sad, parody of this issue.

People still play Pokémon Go?

5 million active users still. They just raised $200 million for their next AR gaming release, this time Harry Potter based.

It's going to kill more wizards and witches than the Salem trials and Inquisition.

What's your solution though?

I agree it's a problem... IMO they need to find a way to enforce the laws, not write more laws that can't be enforced.

m.huffpost.com it's only still somewhat legal in 4 states.

Why isn't this a thing the Pokemon community has to figure out for itself, the same way the black community has to figure out all their problems for themselves? ;)
